Some of the participants as they begin their Headwaters Adventure Race in Mantua.

Last Saturday, athletes and outdoor adventurers of all ages came to Mantua for the Headwaters Adventure Race and Triple Trail Fest. At 8 am, nearly 250 Adventure Racers headed off for a run along the Headwaters Trail, a bicycle route over roads in Mantua and Hiram, and paddling along the Cuyahoga River. Despite low water level along the Cuyahoga River, warms weather and blue skies helped fuel racers. Top overall female finishers were: first place Mary Tima (2:01:01), second place Veronica Neubert (2:01:23), and third place Diane Depenbrok (2:03:07). Top overall male finishers were: first place Sean Hoover (1:45:15), second place Thomas Franek (1:46:40), and third place Scott Orlando (1:49:58).

Immediately following the race, the Triple Trail Fest activities kicked off with music and fun for the whole family. Sand volleyball, scavenger hunt, naturalist-led hikes, paddles and bike rides kept visitors moving; food trucks and local breweries kept them satiated. It was also the debut of Mantua’s own Good Earth Roasters coffee truck, on hand to caffeinate festivalgoers. Kids activities, local organizations, duck races and a bonfire combined with warm weather and blue skies making the third annual Triple Trail Fest an engaging event for visitors of all ages.

But there’s more fun to be had in the Village this summer. The Farmers & Makers Market at the Granary opens for the 4th season this Friday, June 13th. The event runs on the second and fourth Friday through the summer months from 4-7 pm. Each market will feature live music – this week’s musical guest is acoustic guitar player Steve Vanderink (sponsored by B & H Rentals). Each market will provide a variety of products from local farmers and makers, giving visitors a unique way to procure food and other items, supporting local businesses and building community connections, In addition, local businesses will be open extended hours as well.

The Farmers & Makers Market can be found on the east side of the Mantua Grain building (4690 East Prospect Street), both inside and outdoors on June 13th, June 27th, July 11th, July 25th, August 8th, and August 22nd from 4-7 pm.
