“As a community, we believe in coming together to support each other in times of need,” Sherry Timm, JAG Academy teacher at James A. Garfield High School noted. “What better way to show support than by joining in a delicious pancake breakfast?”

To that end, several classes and student groups at JAG High School will host a special event to show their support for Cairo Svonavec, a 9th grader who is battling Gastric Adenocarcinoma, an aggressive cancer. A special pancake breakfast takes place on Saturday, April 13th from 9 am until noon at JAG Elementary School.

This special event, which highlights one of the ultimate comfort foods — fluffy pancakes and maple syrup – aims to help provide comfort to Cairo and her family. The event, which features breakfast, a 50/50 raffle, and silent auction raffle baskets, aims to show support to the family while providing financial assistance with medical expenses. “Every bite you take will make a difference!” Timm shared. Tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 years and under.

The program is hosted by the James A. Garfield National Honor Society, Mrs. Schweicket’s Life Skills Class, and Mrs. Timm’s JAG Academy students. No strangers to the JAG community, Cairo has been a G-man since first grade, while her father, Joe Svonavec, is an Electricity instructor at Maplewood Career Center.

Timm noted that gift baskets and raffle items will be gladly accepted, and financial donations for the family would be graciously accepted as well. “Together, we can lighten their burden and show them the community’s love and support,” Timm continued. “Please mark your calendars for April 13th, and together we’ll help make a difference for Cairo and her family,” she concluded.
