Top Tier Pastry is no stranger to Mantua, as many locals have enjoyed Top Tier pastries at local farmers markets and at R44 Coffee and Butcher & Baker. In fact, it’s that two-year relationship helped Top Tier Pastry chef and owner Tracey Garrett forge solid connections in the Village, paving the way for her to hang her own shingle in town. Neighboring shopkeepers have become friends; folks from Bibury & Company, Crooked River, and Jake’s helped Garrett settle into her inviting new space. Garrett noted that property owner Karen Stutzman, whose family owned the grocery store that originally occupied the historic space, had the floors and ceiling in the unique space redone for her opening, as well.
Top Tier Pastry is on East Prospect Street in Mantua. If you stop by, the scent of delicious baked goods will draw you inside. In addition to mouth-watering treats, the sweet space is filled with vintage pieces that encourage patrons to sit and enjoy their pastries with coffee or tea.
“Our goal is to create extraordinary pastries with exceptional customer service,” Garrett beamed. Since the start at Farmers Markets in 2010, Top Tier has offered French-American fusion pastries made with locally sourced produce and the highest quality ingredients, including European-style butter and Madagascar vanilla. “If I couldn’t use high quality ingredients, I wouldn’t do it at all,” she stated. “I hope my clients can taste the love.”
Fan favorites including very berry oat bars and heavenly rolls are still on the menu, as are key lime tarts, and mini seasonal pies. Specialty items including croissants, as well as seasonal and holiday items are available as well. Be sure and stop by for cut out cookies, mint brownies, and Guinness stout cake just in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
Top Tier continues to use seasonal ingredients, including local peaches from Monroe’s Orchard, local blueberries, and raspberries. In fact, during her brief summer break, Garrett and her team picked and preserved local fruits, laying up a supply that’s been featured in your favorite desserts and pastries.
To accompany the sweet treats, Top Tier also offers freshly brewed coffee from Schuil Coffee Roasters as well as Harney & Sons teas. Garrett hopes to feature coffee from Kent’s Bent Tree Coffee Roastery soon, as well. Eventually, Top Tier will offer small celebration cakes, breads, and breakfast sandwiches to the menu, too.
The doors officially opened in February, and Garrett has been “kind of shocked” by the response she’s received. “I’ve got such wonderful customers who have been with me from the beginning. Some drive in from as far as an hour away.”
Garrett admits she’s most excited simply to be in her new location. “I’m working super-long hours with a smile on my face,” she shared. “It’s my own space and the location is beautiful; this has been my goal all along.”
