New Ministries Format
Saturday Afternoons
The new ministries format is now taking place at the church of God in Windham. Group meetings and discussions are now taking place each Saturday afternoon at 5pm. The group is meeting at the parsonage at 9004 N Main St. This group is planning the entire revamping or the church from organization to ministries. Salsa Tasting Contest

The Annual Geauga Fresh Farmers Market Salsa Tasting Contest will take place Sept 21st from 10-Noon. If you think your salsa recipe is the best-tasting in town, enter it into the Annual Salsa Tasting Contest. There will be two categories: mild and hot. Bring a quart of salsa to the market booth before 9:30am next Saturday. Mark it with your name and identify it as mild or hot. Past years have brought salsas made with a variety of local fruits and vegetables – peaches, watermelon, tomatoes, tomatillos, corn and pumpkin. Ingredients must be local – no mango or pineapple salsa! Customers and vendors are encouraged to enter their favorite salsa. Everyone can taste and vote. The Market is located in the South Russell Village parking lot at Rt. 306/Chillicothe Rd. and Bell Rd. Hours are 9:00-Noon every Saturday, rain or shine, until early October. Black Bear Valley

Explore this remote section of the Akron Watershed that has had numerous reports of black bear activity with naturalist Bob Faber. This sprawling woodland near Hiram Rapids stretches from the uplands along Tilden Road to the Cuyahoga River. We will search for signs of bears and other wildlife in this area of upland forests and a wildlife rich floodplain along the Cuyahoga River. This is an off-trail walk that may require sloshing through shallow water and some mud. Sept 22nd from 1-3pm. Benefit Concert by Gail Mangeri

An old fashioned Homecoming celebration will be held at Faith Evangelical Church in Garrettsville on Sept 29. Sunday school will begin at 9:45 with morning worship to follow at 11. There will be a covered dish dinner at 12:30. The afternoon services (outside weather permitting) will include the Stoney River Band with the Klein Family. Harvest Moon Pot Luck & Pig Roast

A pork dinner will be held at the Nelson Community House on Oct 5th, doors open at 2pm. Residents are asked to bring a family size dish to share, if you don’t bring a dish, a fee will be charged. Serving times vary as to when the pig is done and rested. There will be side dishes of potatoes, pasta salads, green beans, corn, carrots, lettuce salad, chicken, roll and butter, iced tea, coffee and an assortment of desserts. There will also be a Chinese auction, 50/50 raffle and bake sale. Winners need not be present. Boy Scouts of Troop65 will be helping with set up, clearing dishes, and clean up after the event. This event is to benefit the Pixley Park Development Committee for the building of a picnic pavilion and new playground equipment.

The LaDue Shuffle and a Welshfield Lunch

Join naturalist Bob Faber to explore the country road and the mature forest trails along the western shore of La Due Reservoir. Loons, swans and other waterfowl rest on the waters and eagles fly overhead as the various species prepare for the winter migration. Wild turkeys patrol the forest while beavers and muskrats scour the wetlands in anticipation of winter storms. Bring binoculars and be prepared to get a tad muddy. Following our exploration we will have the option for delicious lunch at the nearby Welshfield Inn (not included in fee). Exploration will be Oct 6thfrom 9:30-11:30am. Burton Art Show

The annual Burton Art Show, sponsored by the Friends of the Burton Public Library, will be held from October 8 – 13 at the library. All artists (16 years and older) that live, work, or attend school in Geauga County or Lake County are invited to submit their work. Each artist is permitted a maximum of three (3) entries. Works of art include paintings (all media), drawings, photography, sculpture and jewelry. There is a $5 non-refundable entry fee for each entry. Cash awards will be given for Best of Show and for 1st Place and 2nd Place in Art and Photography. The judges this year are Christopher Ryan for all media except Photography and Vaughn Bell for Photography.
