Garrettsville – Garrettsville’s Girls C League is finishing up their regular season this week and will begin the first round of the Ohio Girls Softball Organization (OGSO) Tournaments the week of July 8, 2013. This year they have fielded three very talented teams, who anticipate going deep in the post-season play.
The JAGS who currently are 14-0 (as of Sunday) and went deep into the play-offs last year are anticipating a run at the state title. In 2011, they were state champions. Their ace on the mound is Lauren Jones and she has had a great season along with her teammates. Most of the JAGS are enjoying their last year of recreation softball and looking forward to playing high school ball next year. The JAGS head coach is Bruce Jones.
The second team is Garfield Extreme and they are coached by Austin Click and their ace on the mound is his daughter, Makenzie Click. Their record as of Sunday is 9-5 and they continue to play well. Makenzie pitched a great game this past Saturday against Brimfield.  The team won 7-5 in ten innings, with Ms. Click pitching the entire game. She faced 44 batters and served up 18 strike outs, 8 hits and 2 walks. The team is hoping to make a return to State this year.
Hot Shots is the third team in the C League.  They are a newly-formed team that hasn’t played together before this spring. The team has plenty of talented athletes that are just starting to jell into a good solid team.  Their record is 7-7( as of Sunday) with several games being lost by a run or two. Their ace pitcher is Madi Van Kirk. Madi is one of the youngest players in the league who continues to develop more speed and accuracy with each game; she could be a force to be reckoned with in the tournaments.  The girls have all had fun, learned a lot, and have enjoyed this season. The Hot Shots also have several players, who are playing their last year of recreation softball before moving on high school ball next year. They are coached by Tom Van Kirk, Tim Perkins and Brian Masters.
The first round of the play-offs is scheduled to be at Windham the week of July 8th. All three teams have high hopes of going deep in the play-offs, however, in order to do that they will need to bring their “A” game. This year, the C League has a lot of talented teams that will make the tournaments exciting.
