The Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard is participating in the Feinstein Foundation $1 Million Challenge to Fight Hunger. For the past 15 years, the Feinstein Foundation has given away one million dollars each year to non-profit agencies across the county to fight hunger. Past Feinstein Foundation challenges have raised over $1.5 Billion for 1800 organizations nationwide. The $1 Million Challenge is considered one of the most successful ongoing grass roots efforts to fight hunger.
The challenge is simple; for every dollar donated to NGCC in March & April, the Feinstein Foundation will MATCH IT! For every food item donated to NGCC in March & April, the Feinstein Foundation will GIVE US $1.00! What an easy way to double the impact of your donation!
We have 2 events planned during April that will help us meet the $1 Million Challenge. On Saturday, April 6th we will hold an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Dinner and Chinese Auction from 4:00-7:00pm at the Nelson Community House. Tickets are $7.00 for adults and $4.00 for children (3-12 yrs). All are invited to enjoy great food and double your impact since all funds raised will be matched by the Feinstein Foundation.
On Saturday, April 27th we will hold a Fill The Fire Truck Food Drive at the SkyPlaza IGA from 9:00am-3:00pm. We hope to fill Joe Leonard’s vintage 1935 Hercules Fire Truck to the rim with food. The Feinstein Foundation will donate $1 for each food item we collect.
If spring ever arrives, we will hold our 2nd annual Plant A Row for the Hungry campaign.
We ask all gardening enthusiasts to plant an extra row in their gardens to donate to the Community Cupboard. Plant A Row for the Hungry is a nationwide campaign launched by the Garden Writers Association in 1995 and donations average over 1,000,000 pounds of fresh produce annually. Produce can be dropped off at the Community Cupboard during regular hours this summer or contact us for other arrangements. Last summer’s campaign was a huge success!
