“Environmental Alternatives” Presentation

Dr. James Frost will present a power point program entitled “Environmental Alternatives” based on a management system of “green” methods to use in protecting and preserving our natural environment. He will discuss ideas presented at the Center for Alternative Technology in Wales and how they would apply to the proposed Environmental Education Space for Portage Lakes State Park. Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will host a public observing night from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, participating in this year’s International Observe the Moon Night! The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. No reservations are required and there is no admission fee for observatory public nights. Cloudy skies at the starting time cancel the event and, the observatory will not open. There is no parking at the Observatory. The Braceville UMC (off St. Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville), will hold a stuffed pork chop dinner on Sept 29. The dinner begins at 4:00 and will be served until 6:30 unless food runs out. The dinner includes mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread, coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $9 for adults and $3.50 for children. Takeouts are available.

The First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Ravenna is hosting their annual craft show on Saturday, September 29, from 9 am to 3 pm at 420 S. Prospect St in Ravenna. There will be a variety of vendors attending with soaps, jewelry, quilts, Avon, Tupperware, gift boxes, and many other types of crafts, all at reasonable prices. There will be a bake sale and a lunch counter that will offer delicious food items for lunch and snacking. A raffle will be held with gifts donated by all the vendors at 2:45 pm. 64th Annual Apple Butter Festival

The 64th Annual Apple Butter Festival comes to Century Village Museum Oct. 13 and 14. This year, for the first time, fans of this Geauga County tradition will be able to compete for the titles of festival King and Queen. The 2012 Apple Butter Festival is sponsored in part by Geauga Bow. Hours for the festival are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $4 children 6-12.
