Mantua – At the last meeting, Superintendent David Toth acknowledged Crestwood High School Scarlet Guard for earning a Superior rating at the State Band Competition recently held in Medina.
On a similar note, the District’s Nutrition Services team received a Super Star Award from the State of Ohio. The team, under the leadership of Director Jennifer Hirsch, served over 300,000 breakfasts and lunches to district students from March 2020 through 2021. Toth noted that during virtual learning, the team was able to provide breakfast and lunch packets to district families; breakfast and lunch are still available to students during in-school learning. These efforts were made possible with over $10,000 in donations from local businesses and assistance from a local church.
In financial news, District Treasurer Sarah Palm released the District’s updated Five-Year Plan. She noted that in Fiscal Year 2022 a revenue surplus is expected. “This means that expenditures are expected to be less than revenue by -$695,316 in FY 2022.” Palm continued, “By the last year of the forecast, FY 2026, the district is expected to have a revenue shortfall where expenditures are projected to be greater than revenue by $2,345,839.”
Palm noted that the forecast includes the Fair School Funding Plan (FSFP) adopted by Ohio starting in Fiscal Year 2022. She noted that as information changes the estimates will be updated. She also added that the District is considered a Guarantee District in Fiscal Year 2022, which is subject to change. Palm also highlighted that changes in the Fair School Funding Plan reduce the amount funded for students who Open Enroll or attend STEM school outside the District. She noted that a detailed state funding supplement to the forecast has been prepared and should be reviewed and considered part of the forecast assumptions.
