Windham has a School Levy on March Ballot

2542

Windham – Windham Board of Education has placed a 1.5 Permanent Improvement (PI) Levy on the March 17th ballot this year. The 1.5 mills PI Levy can only be used for the following: for building repairs and upgrades, buses, bus repair, heating and cooling parts, parking lots and repairs, maintenance grounds equipment and repairs to technology and technology infrastructure. It can’t be used for teachers or staff salaries. Although, it is called a permanent improvement levy, it is not permanent, it is a five-year levy.

If this levy passes, it will cost the taxpayers less than what they are paying now. The classroom/ facilities bond issue will be completed this spring, and actually is a larger tax than the PI Levy. The board will make the final payment on the bond issue in the spring of 2020, finishing their obligation on the bond issue. Taxes will not increase from what one is paying now, in fact they will go DOWN. Let me repeat that, one will pay LESS TAXES than they are paying now.

The 1.5 mill levy is expected to only generate $71,327 annually to help keep the buildings, buses, and grounds in good shape.
