Mantua – In their first board meeting of 2020, board members Timothy Herron, Bonnie Lovejoy, and Karen Schulz took their oath of office. The group then elected Karen Schulz to serve as school board president and Kristen Cavanaugh to serve as board vice president for 2020.
The board then approved a motion to set the calendar for regular meeting dates, which will take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month at 7 pm at Crestwood Primary School. It was noted that these meetings are subject to change — the full schedule for the year can be found on the school board page at crestwoodschools.org.

In their regular meeting, the board accepted the resignations — for the purpose of retirement — of teacher Dianna Mattmuller and aid Joanne Bockmuller, effective June 30, 2020. The board also approved a Memo of Understanding (MOU) between the Crestwood Local School District and the Village of Mantua regarding a Student Resource Officer (SRO). Both parties have agreed to the placement of a specially-trained police officer within the district’s school buildings. The MOU sets forth the expectations, duties, and responsibilities of the SRO. According to Mantua Village Police Chief Joe Urso, the SRO officer has been selected, pending the individual’s police academy graduation. In other news, Chief Urso noted that he and K9 officer Ciko recently passed their state testng and will begin working in the school district soon.

The next regularly scheduled Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 21st at 7 pm at Crestwood Primary School.
