Wildflowers & Folklore

Geauga Park District Naturalist Denise Wolfe
Saturday, March 23, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Free

Join GPD Naturalist Denise Wolfe for an educational and entertaining hour. Learn about the wildflowers of Geauga County. Many myths and legends are associated with plants. We will explore how they got their names and learn some interesting folklore about these flowers.

Birds & Butterflies

Master Gardener Volunteers Matt Valencic & Chris Pappas
Wednesday, March 27, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. $15

Nature photographer and Master Gardener Volunteer Matt Valencic will help you create a year round bird friendly yard with the basic needs of food, water, shelter and security. Matt will share some of his fascinating widely viewed photos of resident birds, summer breeders and spring/fall migrant birds and encourage you to welcome them by providing desirable habitat elements in your yard.

Pollinator specialist and Master Gardener Volunteer Chris Pappas presents a program on making your garden butterfly friendly. She will also provide information on identifying butterflies, interesting butterfly biology facts and what plants to choose when designing your butterfly garden. For the budget minded or those with small spaces, this might include butterfly container gardens. Perhaps even changing some of your garden practices will favor pollinators.

Tree Identification

Master Gardener Volunteer and Certified Arborist Deborah Palmisano
Saturday, April 13, 10:00 a.m. – Noon Free, off site at GPD West Woods Park and Nature Center

Learn how to identify both native and popular trees and woody plants with Debbie’s guidance. Feel free to bring your own photos or samples from your trees or shrubs that stump you. Weather permitting, we will allow time for a hike and identification of trees on the grounds.
