Rotary 4-Way Speech Contest is fast-approaching

1046

Members of the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club met at noon on Monday, February 2019 in Cal’s II, Sky Plaza, Garrettsville for the following business.

Henceforth the duties of treasurer will be undertaken by a troika consisting of Debra Blake, Amy Crawford and Lisa Muldowny, with two signatures required on checks. Delores McCumbers needs information for reporting on the November Reverse Raffle to the grants committee. The group will be seeking updated, expanded, more formal thank you missives to persons, companies, donors and sponsors who contribute to Rotary activities, including the Reverse Raffle and other community projects. Certificates and stationery will be going to more recipients for more such appreciations.

Unfortunately, the Penn-Ohio writing competition (which had replaced Power of the Pen), to be sponsored locally by Rotary, has been cancelled but local organizer, Jacquelyn Pittinger-Lovelace, will be seeking to involve some local school districts in alternate activities and encourage participation by Garfield students to maintain the interest in good writing. Ted Lysiak reported that local school superintendents will be sponsoring a Mental Health and Wellness Day on May 14; Garfield is to be the host school for the northern tier of schools and organizations.

The 4-Way Speech Contest is fast-approaching; publicity and information will be going out soon. The local competition will be on March 11, with local prizes to be awarded (winner–$100, runner-up–$50) and the district contest will be held on April 6 in Aurora. There was an excellent response to the distribution of dictionaries to the Garfield third grade and students at the local Amish school. The Headwaters Trail project is finishing up, waiting on Spring and a front-end loader to move rocks; some professional help is possibly in the offing from a landscape architect with local roots.. Reportedly, the Christmas Santa deliveries went well.

Dues are due.

Anyone interested in accompanying exchange student Natalie to a Rotary Night with the Cleveland Cavaliers on February 21? Anyone interested in being a Rotary student exchange person next year? Anyone interested in hosting a Rotary Exchange Student next year? Speak up!
