Frost Glass Offers Workshops in Mantua

Mantua – Frost Glass objects are made by hand in limited production by local artists and Mantua residents Carrie and Patrick Frost. Both Carrie, who holds a BFA in glass from the Cleveland Institute of Art and her husband Patrick, who holds a BS from Illinois State University; have spent several years traveling and working with master glassmakers from the United States, the Czech Republic and Murano, Italy. Through this exposure to master glassmakers, the Frosts have been able to blow and sculpt glass in the traditional styles while incorporating their own functional and modern spin.

Not long ago, their work could only be found by chance at a variety of art galleries and art shows. Since setting up shop in Mantua in 2014, they’ve had a hand in breathing new life into the Mantua art scene. Through their involvement with the Downtown Mantua Revitalization Corporation (DMRC)’s Art on the Hill, as well as their own Arts and Ales events each fall, the pair have had a hand in reinvigorating the village through the arts.
Today, a variety of their beautiful blown and sculpted glass pieces are available for sale at the Frost Glass showroom at 10763 Main Street, just in time for spring and summer gift giving. But if you’ve always been fascinated with molten glass, and have wanted to try your hand at this ages-old craft, they’ve got a wonderful opportunity for you.

On select Saturdays, the Frosts invite the public to come to their shop to experience glassmaking firsthand. ‘Make Your Own Glass’ workshops are offered on select Saturdays from noon until 5:30 pm. They offered holiday ornament making over the winter months, but have a variety of fun projects on the schedule in time for spring’s arrival.
Before the first buds have time to open, March’s projects give you the opportunity to craft your own glass flower on March 3rd or 10th. And just in time for Saint Patrick’s Day, you can craft your own beer mug — perfect to hold a handcrafted Irish ale. You’ll also be able to create your own Easter egg paperweight on March 24th, 31st, or April 7th. Project costs range from $40 – $50 per person; visit www.frostglass.com/make-your-own-glass-1/ for more information.

Reservations are suggested; workshops can accommodate up to four people per hour, unless otherwise noted. Contact Frost Glass at (330) 977-8006 or email carrie@frostglass.com to find out more.
