50th Anniversary of Tolkien’s Death at Portage County District Library

1479

Garrettsville – We’re going on a Tolkien adventure! J.R.R. Tolkien is considered the father of the fantasy genre, and as the 50th anniversary of his death on September 2 approaches, conferences will commemorate and new books are set to be published to honor his life and legacy. The Portage County District Library will also honor his life by embarking on at least a four-month long adventure in reading his most famous works.

Beginning Wednesday, August 23 at the Garrettsville Branch, and running monthly through November, our Inklings Book Club will meet to discuss The Hobbit, Tolkien’s introduction to Bilbo Baggins and the imagined world of Middle Earth. Starting in September through November, we will read and discuss The Lord of the Rings. These hybrid meetings will allow Zoom conferencing for those unable to attend in person, but Elvish and Hobbit recipes along with a Gollum photo booth are available to those who attend. You can register online at: events.portagelibrary.org/events to join us.
