Ravenna – Do you love to write? Interested in working with other writers or learning more about writing in all its forms? Main Street Ravenna is hosting the Second Annual “Winter Writing Festival” on Saturday, February 22, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in a variety of locations around downtown Ravenna.

Kicking off at 10 a.m. this FREE event will feature writing workshops, a story walk, a Book “Pop-Up” Shop, book signings and more. New this year is the WWF Speaker’s Series being held at the Ravenna 7 Theatre in the morning! We will welcome Award-winning Children’s Book Author, Angela Johnson (www.ajohnsonauthor.com) as well as Kent Author Jason Prufer who wrote “Small Town, Big Music”. Both authors will talk about not only the inspiration for their subject matter but their creative process as well.

Rounding out the variety of writing, poetry and journaling workshops scheduled throughout the day, The Wick Poetry Center from KSU will again be visiting our downtown with an interactive workshop to talk about their May 4th 50th Anniversary Project. The very popular Winter Writing Festival Poetry Slam will again be held at the end of the day at the West Main Street Winery and Brewery in collaboration with the Ohio Poetry Association.

Children will have the chance to participate in a story walk courtesy of Reed Memorial Library. In addition, The Winter Writing Festival Writing Contest in partnership with the Ravenna City School District is now in full swing and children in grades 1-12 who participate can drop off their written entries at Reed Memorial Library Reference Desk or with their class teacher (In Ravenna Schools) by February 14, 2020. The top 3 entrants per grade level prompt will be published in the second volume of “Writing Around Ravenna”. The writing prompts for each grade level have been distributed to each Ravenna School District School and can also be found at Reed Memorial Library. Adult Writing prompts are also available at Reed Memorial Library.

Of course, downtown merchants and restaurants will be open for business and you will find other activities including the Learned Owl Bookstore pop-up shop. Raffle tickets will be sold at Bean and Baker Coffee Shop and participating authors will be signing books at specified locations throughout the event day.

The Winter Writing festival is FREE but you must register for the writing workshops you would like to attend due to limited seating. Parking is free around the five-block downtown district.
