“Sweetest Day” early might have been the theme for the September 21, 2023 meeting of the Twentieth Century Club of Garrettsville for their annual guest night. Members answered roll call by introducing their guests, then it was on to the program–delicious.

“Cake Me, I’m Dreaming” is the custom cakery of Lorina Mast-Byler, who proceeded to “Wow” members and guests with tales of all kinds of baking productions, interesting demands and customers, worldwide advertising and recognition, creative recipes, refinement by trial and error (even good-tasting ones).

She demonstrated many of her standard decorating tools, made sunflowers and roses, showed pix of cow cupcakes (charming as well as tasty), said that she had not been forced to deal with any “bridezillas” in the course of producing wedding cakes, spoke of her Amish family background as a foundation for her love of baking, revealed the difference between “naked” and “semi-naked” cakes, mentioned her Facebook page, produced an amazing “show-and-tell” buttercream beauty featuring raspberry filling with white chocolate & raspberry accents. Then it was time to “Let ‘Em Eat Cake”. The demo confection was cut, using the provided template for easy-and-even cake division; it was then consumed by those in attendance, along with a variety of cakes supplied by the program committee. Sweet.

The business meeting was brief. A favorably-received suggestion was made to put up a Facebook page. Program booklets will be going to interested honorary members, along with email minutes going to all members. Next meeting will be at the Historic Johnson Home for the 30-minute tour…in the dark or candlelight…October 5.
