Windham Twp – The Windham Township Trustees met for their regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday October 3, 2013 with all trustees and fiscal officer present. Chairman of the Board Brian Miller called the meeting to order. The trustees approved the minutes from the previous meeting and the expenditures. Trustee Dann Timmons announced that Dale Soinski was appealing the county commissioner’s decision on not to vacate the unused portion of Frazier Road. They have set a date for pretrial on October 10, 2013 at 1pm. in Judge John Enlow’s court room.

In roads, Supervisor Brian Miller reported that the ditching work on Bryant Road was almost complete. They also installed a culvert on Gotham Road.

In zoning, Inspector Joe Pinti reported that he wrote two permits, one for an addition and one for an accessory building. Some issues were raised about the pending demolition of a property placed in the Move Ohio Forward Program. Pinti said he advised the family on storage buildings, and the demolition will proceed as set by the guidelines of the program.

In other zoning news, Brian Miller did some research to see if the trustees could do anything to help out with the demolition of an old church on Silica Sand Road. Miller said it doesn’t fall under the Move Ohio Forward program but it might qualify for a Community Development Block Grant Money.   He will continue to research this option.

In safety news, Timmons reported that everything at the WVFD Joint Fire District was going well and they were reviewing their finances to determine the amount of money they will need for the next levy cycle. The current levy cycle will end in December of 2014.

The trustees approved their portion of the Portage County Solid Waste Department Agreement for recycling bins that the township and Village of Windham share. They will send the agreement on to the village.

In cemetery news, Trustee Jesse Wirick said they had six footers to prepare for concrete, with the hopes of pouring them the beginning of the week.

Wirick also investigated the possibility of having more areas in the township have access to natural gas. He said, residents would need to call the construction department of Dominion East Ohio Gas at 1-888-619-0786 and request service. If they get enough folks who want the utility on a road, they might consider it. Wirick said, resident can expect at least a three week wait for a response to their request.

Lastly, the trustees approved the purchase of a cell phone for employee, Kevin Wert.  Mr. Wert will investigate the plans and providers before purchasing a phone.

The trustees meet on the 1st Thursday of each month at 7 pm at the town hall.
