Windham – Windham Lions club hosted their quarterly zone meeting last week at the Windham United Methodist Church. The Lions Clubs invited Streetsboro, Ravenna, Kent, Garrettsville and Crestwood Lions Club. A representative of the Crestwood Leos was present as well. Garrettsville and Streetsboro clubs were not available.

The evening was called to order by Windham’s King Lion, Grant Martin and a  wonderful roast pork and beef dinner was served to 36 members of the  local and visiting Lion’s Clubs.   The event is designed so the clubs can share ideas on projects and fellowship with each clubs.

The Crestwood Leos reported that they participated in the peace poster contest, penny collection and in November, they will do cancer awareness ribbons for cancer awareness month. The Crestwood Lions have 17 members and they ran their food trailer over the summer, had a membership drive in June, donated $200 to the fire department, $500 to the Four C’s Food Cupboard, and $1000 to the police department for a K9 dog.

Ravenna Lions Club has 22 members with 72% being active members.  They are getting ready to do Thanksgiving baskets, and getting ready for the balloon a-fair Christmas Parade. Over the summer, they hosted a few speakers including a speaker on diabetes awareness and Wayne Enders from the historical society did a portrayal of James A. Garfield. The group is also sponsoring a breakfast with Santa. The club is doing well and has added four new members this year.

The Kent club is doing well and has 56 members with only 46% participation due to many members being older. The Kent group has done eye screening, turkeys and food baskets for the holidays and the have adopted a highway.

Lastly the Lions club from Windham reported that they had just completed their summer sandwich trailer sales for the summer.  They have worked on beautifying the park, helped with the Mission Fair at the United Methodist Church and also held an Election Day bean soup supper. They will also provide hot beverages for Windham’s Tree Lighting in December.

The zone meetings are held quarterly and are designed to share ideas and fellowship with other Lions Clubs in the area.
