Windham – The Windham Historical Society continues their busy 2014 schedule on Monday, March 17, at 7 PM in the Brick Chapel on North Main Street in Windham.

The program for this free and public meeting will be presentations by four Windham High School seniors, Kelsey Meszaros, Katelyn Dean, Joshua Youngen, and Britney Collins, as the final step in their pursuit of Windham Historical Society scholarships.

These scholarships are underwritten by the Stuart Higley Foundation, administered by descendants of one of Windham’s founding families. The Higley Foundation has been a long time benefactor of the Historical Society.

Kelsey will be talking about the history of Windham’s oldest religious establishment, the Congregational Church.

Katelyn will speak upon the topic of “Inspirational People Who Have Come From Windham.”

Joshua has selected the topic of “The History of East Elementary School,” built over 50 years ago, and today the site of the Renaissance Family Center.

And Britney will be profiling former teacher and Athletic Director Frances Davis, the woman who brought female athletics to Windham in the 1970’s and still volunteers with the Windham High School athletic department.

Two of the applicants will be chosen to receive the Windham Historical Society scholarships, with the winners to be announced at the spring commencement ceremony.

The public is invited to this free and interesting presentation by four of Windham’s finest scholars.

The Society is always interested in obtaining, whether permanently or on loan, any object with relevance to Windham. Items of special interest include pictures, scrapbooks, ephemera, newspapers, advertising, tokens, school items, sports items, or family genealogy.
