Juried Photo Show

TAG’s 4th Annual Juried Photo Show.  Our largest show yet, this show features beautiful photographs from names you will recognize from past shows, as well as some you won’t.  Out of 149 entries, 83 were selected for the judging, and are currently hanging in the Trumbull Art Gallery.  Of the additional entries, 58 are being shown in the Nissen Gallery at Trumbull Memorial Hospital.  The pictures may be viewed between noon and 4 pm at TAG.  Admission is free.

 

Garrettsville Farmers Market

Vendors are still being accepted.  The cost for this year’s market has remained the same, $60.00 for the entire season. The Farmers’ Markets will run from July 24 through October 2 every Wednesday from 3:00 – 6:30pm in the Skylane Bowling Alley parking lot. Scholarship Offer

Chiropractic Center of Garrettsville is happy to announce that they will be offering a scholarship to senior athletes at James A. Garfield High School for the sixth year. The scholarship will be for $850.00. It may be used as the student needs. Applications are available at the chiropractic office or through the school counselor.

Hiram Community Trust Grant Proposals

Grant funding is provided for civic, cultural, educational, historical, community planning, beautification and environmental projects in the Hiram area. Grants are due by April 12. Free Water Well Monitoring

On the fourth Monday of every month at 7 p.m. Free “neighbors helping neighbors” monthly water monitoring program  will be held at the Hiram Christian Church, 6868 Wakefield Rd.   Sierra Club meters will be used to test for “indicators” of water quality. For accurate readings a water sample should be taken as directly from the well as possible (from the well head or pump if at all possible), before any water treatment. For a sample “fresh from the well,” drain the water sitting in your pipes by running any household cold water for about 10 minutes before you collect your sample from a faucet on your pump. Use a clean, wide mouthed, covered glass container that holds about 8 oz. Outdoor Easter Service

An Outdoor Easter Sunrise Service will be held on, Mar 31 at 7:30 AM.  This 35-40 minute service, hosted by First Baptist Church, Newton Falls, will be held at the pavilion next to the dam on Broad Street in downtown Newton Falls and will provide an opportunity to worship outdoors and celebrate Christ’s resurrection through song, spoken word and communion during the early morning hours on Easter Sunday.

Boating Education Course

The Ohio Boating Education Course will be offered on Monday nights: April 1, 8 and 15, 2013, from 6-9pm. The fee for the course is $5, which covers the cost of course materials. Interested persons may register to take the course by calling 440-964-0518. The Ohio Boating Education Course covers a variety of boating topics. Ohio law requires any person born on or after January 1, 1982, to be able to show proof they have successfully completed an approved boating safety education course if they operate any watercraft powered by a motor greater than 10 horsepower. An afternoon with Elvis by Kelvis.  This is a fund raiser to purchase new padded chairs for the building, we want to replace the old wooden chairs and all funds raised will go directly to new chairs. Mantua Village Garden Club

The Mantua Village Garden Club meetings are scheduled to be held on the first Mondays of the month, at noon, including pot luck luncheons (unless otherwise noted) at the home of Carol Fenrich. The next meeting will be Apr 8. April is the month when all of their spring flowers are in, and blooming, at their greenhouse, and promises a glorious visual display, which will get us itching to get out to our gardens. The programs in place for 2013 are full of great gardening information, food and fun. The club is also planning its annual plant sale for May 18th. Ouija, The Talking Cockatoo

Ouija (pronouned WeeGee) is an umbrella crested cockatoo that sings, dances, laughs and especially loves children. He was featured on Animal Planet’s Pet Story program and has performed all over northeast Ohio. All ages are welcome to this fun evening at the Burton Public Library. Hiram Police Department Pancake Breakfast “Shop with a Cop” Fundraiser will be Apr 20 from 9am-1pm at Hiram College Kennedy Center Dix Dining Hall. All-U-Can-Eat. $6 for adults, $3 for kids under 10. Proceed benefit the Hiram Police Department “Shop with a Cop” program. Windswept Farms of Hiram and Save-A-Lot of Garrettsville are donating the maple syrup for this fundraiser.

 

Intro to Geocaching

Trunk Sale

The Girard Junior Women annual trunk sale will be 10-2 on May 11 on 100 N Market Street in Girard. The event will take place rain or shine. Call Laura at 330 545 5962 if interested in a spot. Spots for the trunk sale are available at ten dollars each. The public is encouraged to come out and shop the area which will have a variety of goods for sale. The event will be held on the Girard City lot across from the City Building and is visible from 422.

Labor Day Weekend

The Crestwood High School Class of 1973 is planning its 40th class reunion. The reunion will be held Labor Day Weekend. We are in the process of forming a mailing list of all class members. If we can get e-mails it will greatly reduce our mailing costs for this event. Autism 5k and walk

Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk, formerly Akron Walks for Autism, is the Autism Society of Greater Akron’s premier fundraising and autism awareness event.  Money raised stays local to support individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who support them.  The event will be held on June 15 at Lock 3 in downtown Akron.  The Autism Society of Greater Akron provides vital programs and services to families living with autism in Summit, Stark, Wayne, Portage and Medina counties and is part of the Autism Society of Ohio.
