Vendors are still being accepted.  The cost for this year’s market has remained the same, $60.00 for the entire season. The Farmer’s Markets will run from July 24 through October 2 every Wednesday from 3:00 – 6:30pm in the Skylane Bowling Alley parking lot. Hiram Community Trust Grant Proposals

For over 20 years, the Hiram Community Trust has been providing funds that make our communities a special place to live and learn. Grant funding is provided for civic, cultural, educational, historical, community planning, beautification and environmental projects in the Hiram area. Grants are due by April 12. Benefit Spaghetti Dinner

A spaghetti dinner will be held on Mar 8 from 5:30-7pm at Aurora Mennonite Church, 59 East Mennonite Rd., Aurora, as a fundraiser to help Portage County resident and longtime home health caregiver, Debbie Dickerhoof.  Debbie has been diagnosed with inoperable cancer. Self-Defense Class

Taught by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Department, this session features a classroom lesson followed by a hands-on practical workshop. Registration for children entering the Newton Falls School System for the 2013-2014 school year (including K students and transfer students) will be held: March 11-15 from 8:30-11:30 am & 12:30-2:30 pm each day. You do NOT need an appointment, but please only come during these times.  It is not necessary to bring your child at this time. You should bring the following items with you when registering: Your child’s legal birth certificate, Immunization records, Proof of residency (driver’s license, utility bill, etc), Child’s Social Security Number, Custody papers (if applicable)

 

Do We Know Dewey?

Do We Know Dewey? Program will be Mar 12 at 4 pm at the Burton Public Library. The Dewey Decimal System is used by 95% of public and school libraries and is the key to finding the information that you need worldwide.  Designed for ages 10 – 100, this program will serve as an introduction or a refresher course to the Dewey Decimal System.  This will be a fun, hands-on approach with prizes!  Please call the Burton Public Library to register: 440-834-4466.

 

“Open Tuesdays”

“Open Tuesdays” at the Mantua Center School, Mar 12, 19, and 26 and Apr 2, 9, and 16, Mantua Center Road just north of SR82.  The fully accessible school cafeteria wing will be open for six consecutive Tuesdays, , 9am until about 8pm.  This is a privately funded, no charge chance to explore the school’s potential use as a community center.  Bring a friend or make some new ones for socializing, cards, board games, reading material exchange, potluck lunch and supper.  Craft lessons and service project opportunities.  All are invited. Windham Free Pasta & Meatball Dinner

Pasta & meatballs will be served at the Congregational Church’s Mar 14 Free Dinner. The dinner will be served from 5- 6 pm., while supply lasts at the Brick Chapel, 9003 N. Board of Trustees’ Meeting

Windham Athletic Boosters Casino  Bus Trip

Join the Windham Athletic Boosters as they head to Presque Isle in Erie, PA. All proceeds benefit the building of the baseball / softball field. Trip is March 16th. Bus leaves from Windham High School at 4 pm and returns by 1 am. Cost is $40 per ticket. Getting Started With Backyard Chickens

Spring is just around the corner, and that means fluffy chicks will soon be arriving in local feed stores.  The Garrettsville Library is pleased to announce a program for prospective chicken owners.  “Getting Started with Backyard Chickens” will be presented on Mar 16 at 11:00 am.  Participants will learn the basics of backyard flock keeping, from setting up the brooder box to maintenance of a mature egg-laying flock.  A take home packet will be provided.  This program is geared towards the egg-laying flock; meat production will not be covered.  Registration is limited, so call early to register for this fun and informative gathering.  Ages 16 and up may attend. Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Seeks 2013 Pin Design

The Ravenna Balloon A-Fair Parade committee is challenging area artists to put their creative abilities to use to design this year’s pin.   The drawing should be centered around this year’s theme, “Be One With The Clouds”. The year’s theme was submitted by Jack Ferguson. Pin design winner will receive a free Balloon A-Fair themed pin and t-shirt, not to mention bragging rights. The entry must be limited to three to four colors.  No computerized drawing will be accepted. Hand drawn entries only. BioBuddies: Eggs Alive!

BioBuddies is a discovery-based program for preschool age children (3-5 years old) to experience the wonders of the natural world around them. The theme this spring is Eggs Alive! Children will explore chickens, eggs and the observation of the life  inside as they incubate eggs and hatch chicks. All sessions meet from 1:00-2:30pm at Hiram College. An afternoon with Elvis by Kelvis.  This is a fund raiser to purchase new padded chairs for the building, we want to replace the old wooden chairs and all funds raised will go directly to new chairs. Claridon Girl Scout troop 1324 is looking for crafters and vendors for its 3rd Annual Spring Ahead Bazaar to be held on April 13 from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. at the Claridon Town Hall at the corner of Rt. 322 and Claridon-Troy Rd.. Make Your Own Garden Art:  Fountains and Bubblers

Water features are the hottest trend in garden decor.  Spend an enjoyable morning while learning the basics in creating simple bubblers and fountains.  Enhance your flower bed and attract birds with your own creation you’ll take home with you. Class will be Apr 13 from 10-1 pm.  Materials included in the $35 fee:  ceramic or resin pot, water pump, tubing and directions.  Light refreshments. Stray Dog Skate

Come spend an evening for the stray dogs of Geauga County on Apr 14 from 5:30-7:30pm at the, Chagrin Falls Roller Rink, 7157 S. Main St., Chagrin Falls. $10 donation plus $4 skate rental. Come meet some of our shelter staff, volunteers and maybe a furbaby needing a good loving home.

 

Autism 5k and walk

Akron’s Autism 5k and Walk, formerly Akron Walks for Autism, is the Autism Society of Greater Akron’s premier fundraising and autism awareness event.  Money raised stays local to support individuals with autism, their families, and the professionals who support them.  The event will be held on June 15 at Lock 3 in downtown Akron.  The Autism Society of Greater Akron provides vital programs and services to families living with autism in Summit, Stark, Wayne, Portage and Medina counties and is part of the Autism Society of Ohio.
