Garfield Band Booster Meeting

2nd Thurs of Month

JA Garfield band booster meetings are now being held the second Thursday of every month.  They begin at 7:00 p.m. and are held in the high school band room.  Any member of the community, interested in promoting the development of the James A. Garfield band programs, may become a booster member.  If you have a child in band, you are already a booster.  Our first meeting of this year will be on Thursday, August 9th.  We hope to see you at the meetings

 

3rd Annual Rib Dinner

Fridays in Aug.

The Mantua council of the Knights of Columbus will host their 3rd annual Rib Dinner Fridays during August 2012.  Delicious, slow-cooked St. Louis Style Rib Dinners will be offered for carryout or you are welcome to picnic on our lawn. Regular Rib Dinner includes: Half Slab Ribs, Baked Potato, Cole slaw, Baked Beans and Corn on the Cob for $12.50 each.  Light Rib Dinner includes: Half Slab Ribs, Cole slaw and baked beans for $11.00 each.  Extra Cob Corn, Baked Potatoes and Bottled Water will also be available $1.00 each. Come on out and enjoy our most delicious rib dinners between 4-7PM on Fridays August 3, 10, 17 & 24th.  Mantua K of C is located on State Route 44 just north of Route 82 in Mantua, Ohio. We have a beautiful country setting, perfect for lawn style picnics.  So pack your blanket, bring your own beverage, play some games and enjoy a delicious rib dinner. Youth Cheer Camp

The James A. Garfield High School Cheerleaders will hold their annual Youth Cheer Camp Aug 20 – 22 from 6pm – 8pm. The camp includes two hour practices for three days and an invitation to perform before the First G-Men Varsity home game. Youth cheerleaders will learn 1 dance, 1 cheer, and 3 sideline cheers. Library Fundraiser

The Friends of Garrettsville Library are  planning a fundraiser/ social event at the Candlelight Winery. There are no tickets to purchase, and everyone is welcome. This is your chance to support the library programs, and have a good time. Arrive after 4pm. There is no set charge for this event. If you wish to donate to the silent auction contact Cindy at the library.

Second Annual Arts in the Park

Corn Celebration

The Geauga Fresh Farmers’ Market will celebrate corn on August 11, 2012. Customers will be treated to all kinds of corn treats from 10:00-Noon. Volunteers will be cooking ears of corn and customers will be encouraged to “paint” the corn with one of several toppings that may include Chile peppers, sour cream, lime, garlic, or other ingredients for an on-the-spot taste treat. Recipes will be provided. Vendors plan to get into the spirit with other corn related products

 

Flea Market

Garrettsville Church of God, 12888 St. Rt. 88, will be holding a flea market on Aug 11 from 8-5pm. The event will be held outside on church property. There will be miscellaneous items; fresh garden vegetables, televisions, exercise equipment, household items, kids games, books and more. Italian Dinner

If the heat is getting you down, let us do the cooking for you.  The Ravenna Chapter Order of the Eastern Stars is hosting an Italian Dinner on August 11th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  You will receive Baked Rigatoni (Gluten free Rigatoni also available), Salad Bar, Bread, Spumoni Ice Cream and Beverages for a donation of $7.00 for adults, $4.00 for children ages 6-12, children under 5 free.  The Ravenna Masonic Complex is located at 4785 Washington Avenue in Ravenna (corner of Washington Avenue and State Route 14).  Carry out meals will be available.  The public is welcome.

 

Zucchini Festival

Zucchini Festival to be held August 11-12 at the Troy Community House (13950 Main Market Road / Route 422; Burton, Ohio 44021). For the benefit of

Emerald Rose Corporation.  Emerald Rose is a not for profit corporation

with the goal of building Emerald Fields of Troy, a therapeutic farming

campus for the mentally ill. Festival includes contests, demonstrations

and entertainment.

 

Annual Harvest Day Festival

DTJ Taborville’s 78th annual Harvest Day Festival will be held on Aug. 12 at Taborville in Auburn. The parade starts at 2pm. Czech food will be served from 11am and will include pork, dumplings, and sauerkraut, beef goulash, tripe soup, wieners, homemade garlic’s, and pastries are served from 11am on. Music starts at noon. Czech beer is available, t-shirts available, as well as other Czech items. $5 donation at the gate for 12 yrs and older. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets. No coolers. Room Mothers’ Luncheon

The Freedom Township School Room Mothers’ 2012 luncheon will be held at noon, on August 14 at the Freedom Town Hall. All mothers who have fond memories of their child’s school years at the Freedom School are invited, along with other guests. Middlefield Chamber Meeting

Historical Society at 11:30 am, light lunch provided, business meeting and

Newton Falls Crescendo Club

“Down By The River”

“Down by the River” will be held on August 17 from 3pm until10pm at Camp Hi Canoe, 12274 Abbott Rd., Hiram. Schedule of events:  Canoe or kayak the Cuyahoga River, free along the waterfront, or paddle 2 miles for  only $10 per boat from 3-5 pm. Music by “The Rocket 88’s” 6-7:30;   “Sharon and Mary Rose” 8-9:30.  Come and be entertained for the evening  BRING YOUR FRIENDS, a chair and BYOB. Wikle to be Guest Speaker

August 19th the First Church of God in Windham at 9016 N Main St will be hosting Marie Wikle as a special guest speaker in the 11 am service.  Marie’s ministry includes seeing through the eyes of compassion and understanding the heart that desires to have an impact, Marie encourages others to see the full potential of the everyday, ordinary resources that are right within their reach. A carry in dinner with Marie and her husband will immediately follow the service and all are welcome to attend.

 

Adopt-a-thon

Rose’s Rescue will be hosting a pet Adopt-a-thon on August 19, 2012 at  Ravenna Moose Lodge #1234 Pavilion located at 5727 State Route 14, Ravenna.  The event will be held from 1pm-5pm. Donations of pet food will be accepted for the People Care Pet Pantry. Bring a 3 lb or larger bag of pet food to donate and receive a free entry into the door prize drawing. Adoptable dogs on site.  Sale items and concession stand available. All friendly dogs on leash are welcome, so bring Fido along that day. Annual Picnic

Aug 19

Freedom Township annual picnic will be held this year on August 19 in the Freedom town hall pavilion. Joining in the festivities will be the Freedom Congregational Church and the Bethel Springs congregations. Combined church services will be at 10am in a large tent. The VFW will hold a memorial service at noon. The lunch will be served right after the memorial service. The main meat dish will be provided by the township. The church is cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. All are asked to bring a dish to pass. Space will be provided on the lawn for an art, craft and music fair. Cops & Kids Fishing Day

The Hiram Police Department will be holding the community program called, “Cops and Kids” Fishing Day. The event will be free of charge to anybody who attends. The intent of “Cops and Kids” Fishing Day is to bring community children closer to law enforcement officers and build lifelong bonds.  The “Cops and Kids Fishing Day” event is scheduled for September 8th from 10am-2pm at Camp Asbury.

 

Craft Show

Craft show tables available: The Kayla Irene Daniels Cure for Cancer Foundation will be hosting a craft show on September 8, at the Parkman Community House. The show will start at 10 am and close at 3 pm. Doors will open 2 hours prior to the show for set up. Tables are $25 each and are on a first come first serve basis. Balloon-A-Fair “Friends In Flight” Seeks Vendors & Exhibitors

The Ravenna Balloon A-Fair is seeking craft vendors, exhibitors, food vendors, local businesses and agencies to set up booths September 15 in downtown Ravenna and September 15 & 16 at SUNBEAU Valley Farm on St. Rt. 59, Ravenna.  For downtown Ravenna booth space application call Judy Tompkins, Booth Chairperson at 330-527-5695. Gospel Fest

The Christian Life Center will host a Gospel Fest on September 23, 2012 at 3:30pm. The church is located at 5931 Rhodes Road Kent. (Church behind Gabriel Brothers) Doors open at 3:00 p.m. The Gospel Fest will showcase several local groups.  Interested groups can call the church for an application.  Applications must be returned within 30 days from the date received. The Gospel Fest is free and open to the public, although a freewill offering will be taken. Refreshments will be available for purchase. 3rd Annual Craft Show

Palmyra Fire Station 3956 St Rt. 225, Diamond, OH 44412 from 10 AM – 4 PM .  We’ll have several Chinese Auction baskets compliments of area businesses. Last year’s baskets included: small dog grooming package, 10 free tanning sessions, family game basket, girls and boys toy basket, spring baskets to name a few. We are currently looking for crafters and patrons.
