Computer Training at the Library

PCDL is pleased to announce that it is taking reservations for its next set of computer training sessions. Training sessions will take place at the Windham Library (located within the Renaissance Family Center) April 10, 12, 17 and 19 from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. There is also a training session scheduled at the Aurora Memorial Library April 23 through April 25 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Fellowship & Music
Wednesdays
Beginning on February 29, 2012, Wednesday night, at 7:00 p.m. and each Wednesday night  after  February 29 there will be fellowship and music at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church located at 336 Ridge Road, in Newton Falls.  This program will supply soup and drinks but most of all there will be worship, fellowship, and music.  The music will be provided the United Methodist Church Praise Band. Come and bring your friends.

American Legion Fish Fry

The Windham American Legion will be hosting a fish fry every Friday from 5 – 8  pm. Cost is $8.50.

Crafters & Vendors Wanted

Hiram Community Trust Grants
Apply By April 20
The Hiram Community Trust was created by Reign Hadsell with the goal of providing funds for projects that make the Hiram Community a distinctive and special place to live. It was Reign’s wish that these funds be used to promote a spirit of cooperation among Hiram Village and Township, Hiram College, James A. Garfield Schools and Crestwood Schools. Funding for projects ranging from several hundred dollars to $25,000 is available. Grants applications are due April 20, 2012 with funds available for projects beginning or after July 1, 2012. Lenten Fish Dinners

St. John Byzantine Catholic Parish, 36125 Aurora Road (corner of Liberty and Aurora roads) will serve fish dinners during Lent on Fridays, March 9, 16, 23 and 30. Mantua’s Art on the Hill is seeking artisans and food vendors for their 4th annual event which will be held on Saturday, July 14th, 2012 from 10am-5pm in downtown Mantua, Ohio. The next Western Reserve Kiwanis All-U-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner will be March 9th, 5-7 pm in the Hiram College Kennedy Center. Dinner includes spaghetti with a choice of meat or marinara sauce, salad, garlic bread, beverage and dessert.  Adults are $6 and kids 8 and under eat FREE! Carry-out available.  NEW! There will be a silent auction!  Among the items to bid on are  Cleveland  Indians tickets, $25 gas card, and many other fun prizes. Our co-host is Hiram Hilltoppers Baseball Team.

Nelson-Garrettsville Community Cupboard Grand Opening

Please join us for the Grand Opening Celebration of the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard on March 10th from 2:00-4:00.  The Cupboard is located behind Isaac Mills Bakery at 9415 St. Rt. 305 on the Nelson Circle.  Come meet our volunteers and take a tour of the Cupboard.  Refreshments will be served.

Goodell Family Farm will again serve its traditional pancake breakfasts the first three Sundays in March, the  11th, and 18th at the Shalersville Townhall, at the corner of Routes 44 and 303.  The pancakes will be buckwheat or plain, with butter, freshly-made maple syrup, and country sausage.  Prices are adults, $7.50 and3.50, aged 3 to 12.  Children under age 3 are free.  We seat you and serve you.  Bring your friends.

Toy Bingo

Toy Bingo at St. Michael’s Church on Ridge Road in Newton Falls.  Sunday, March 11.  Doors open at 1:00.  Play begins at 2:00.  $5 per person.  Extra cards are $1.  Each child must be accompanied by an adult.  50/50 and other raffles.  Ticket includes cake and coffee or punch.  Also available are pizza, macaroni and cheese, nachos, and pop.

JA Garfield OGT Week

During the week of March 12, 2012, 10th grade students will be taking the Ohio Graduation Test or OGT. Information pertaining to the alternative schedule for the week has been sent home with all James A. Garfield High School students. Parents can also find information of the James A. Senior Bingo
March 12
Senior bingo will be held on March 12 from 5-7 pm at the Newton Falls Community Center. Free to all seniors. There is a 50/50 raffle and prizes.  Come out and have some fun.
Girl Scout Activities

Free Girl Scout activities in Windham for girls in 4th – 8th grade. Program will begin Tuesday, March 13th at the Windham Renaissance Family Center and will run for 12 sessions, every Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:00pm-4:30pm. Amateur Radio Class

An Amateur Radio class starts March 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Dietrich Building located beneath the radio tower at Family & Community Services, 705 Oakwood Street in Ravenna.  Students can earn their Technician License and join the exciting and fun hobby of amateur radio.  There is a $25 fee payable to the Portage County Amateur Radio Service (PCARS); texts are $30 and will be available at the class.   Contact Jim Aylward, KC8PD, 330-297-7979, kc8pd@portcars.org for more information.

Pricetown Home-Cooked Supper

The next home-cooked supper at Pricetown Methodist Church, 4640 Pritchard-Ohltown Rd., Newton Falls, will feature meatloaf, potatoes, vegetable, salad, roll, homemade desserts and a beverage. The meal will be on  March 14 from 5 to 6:30 P.M.  Cost $7.00 for adults,  $3.00 for children,  6 to 12 years,  and free for children 5 years and younger.

Paws For Reading
March 17, 24 & 31
For children struggling with reading, the Paws for Reading program has proven successful in helping them build confidence in their reading skills.  Each child is paired with one dog for a half hour session of reading.  Three sessions of Paws for Reading will be held at the Burton Public Library.  On Saturdays March 17, 24 and 31, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.,  children may come to the library for a half hour session of reading with a therapy dog.  Appointments are required.  To schedule a time for your child, please call Beth Pettit at 440-564-7139.

Little Tigers Football Sign-ups

The Newton Falls Little tigers will be holding sign ups for football and cheer leading for children ages 5 through 12 years old. The sign ups will be held on March 17th and March 24th at the Newton Falls community center from  12:00 – 2:00 p.m.. Please bring a copy of child’s birth certificate for the league records. “Christ In The Passover”

Sky Warn Training

Warren Amateur Radio Association will be holding their annual Sky Warn Training on March 20th. at KSU trumbull branch in the technical building room 117.

Step Into Spring – Tools To Help Manage Arthritis Pain

Blue Grass Mass

The Chamber Singers  will be performing a “Blue Grass Mass,”  complete with a Bluegrass band, on  March 30th,, at Hiram Christian Church at 7:30 pm.  All voices are still welcome to audition, but we are very much in need of altos and tenors!   Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays, 4:15 – 5:30 in Frohring Recital Hall.

Youth Football Night At The Races

The Garrettsville Youth Football League is having a Night at the Races on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 6PM at the Mantua Knights of Columbus.  Tickets are $25 per person and includes food, beer, wine and pop.  All proceeds will benefit the Garrettsville Youth Football program.

Little Tigers Golf Fund Raiser

The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be hosting their annual Golf outing fund raiser on June 2, 2012 at the Olde Dutch Mill golf course. The four man scramble will be an 8:00 a.m. shot gun with registration starting at 7:00 a.m.. The registration fee will be $65.00 per golfer and will include lunch, dinner, golf with cart, and beverages. Prizes will be awarded for all holes. Amateur Comedy Night
April 14
The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre will host their third Amateur Comedy Night, at Slim n Jumbo’s on April 14th at 7pm. Amateur comedians from all across Northeast Ohio will gather for the prize money, being awarded to the funniest comedians of the evening. Currently there are 8 comedians registered for this event. Last November, the comedians performed to a standing room only audience of over 90 people. Tickets for this event are $5.00 in advance or $10.00 at the door.
