FREE Hunter Safety Course
Register Now
Register now for FREE Hunter Safety Course with Ravenna Parks and Recreation. The state of Ohio requires first time hunters to complete a hunter safety course before purchasing a license. Upon passing the written exam, a certification card will be mailed to you. This three-night course will cover topics including: firearm safety, wildlife laws, conservation, and personal safety. There will be 3 sessions offered : Sept 20-22; Oct 4-6 and Oct 18-20. All sessions are from 6:30 – 10 p.m. Classes will be held at the Apco Lodge at Lake Hodgson, 5089 Lakewood Rd., Ravenna. This course is FREE and participants must attend all three nights. Please bring a pencil. Participants 11 years old and under must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is a must. Pre-register with Ravenna Recreation at (330) 296-2864 8 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4:15 p.m. weekdays.

Craft Vendors Need For Fall Bazaar

The Burton Congregational Church will hold its annual Fall Bazaar on

Swim With The Hiram College Water Dogs

Registration is underway for Hiram College swim lessons. In person sign ups will be held on Sat. Sept 10th from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the Hiram College Pool. The Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce will host their 10th Bi-Annual Business Showcase on October 20, 2011 at James A. Garfield High School and they are currently looking for vendors for the event. Friends of Melana Murder Mystery Night

Friends of Melana are hosting a murder mystery dinner at the K of C Hall in Mantua on September 10, 2011, with the doors opening at 6pm. Tickets are $25 each which includes the catered dinner and the drama. Tickets are on sale now at Millers Restaurant and Huntington Bank in Garrettsville. The drama is being performed by the Curtains-Up Theatre and will be an interactive performance. Along with the dinner there will be a 50/50 raffle, cash bar (beer & wine) and a Chinese auction. Mantua Potato Stomp Race and Fun Run

The 33rd Annual 9-mile potato stomp race and 1-mile run run are planned in conjunction with the Mantua Potato Festival. The races will be run on Saturday morning, September 10th. The one-mile fun run will begin at 8:30am and the 9-mile race will begin at 9am. Both start at Crestwood High School. If you pre-register, fees for the 9 mile race are $13/$18 (no shirt/shirt) and for the fun run $5/$13 (no shirt/ shirt). Bodenstash Cancer Benefit Pull

On September 17, the Columbiana County Antique Tractor Association is having a John Bodenstash Cancer Benefit. John has pulled his Cockshutt 40 with a Ford V8 engine at CCATA pulls for four years along with pulling at other clubs. He is a motorsports enthusiast. John runs a Funny Car at drag races, has a motorcycle and is an engine builder. He builds racing engines and pulling engines. The pull will be at the Mile Branch Grange track, Knox School Road in Alliance. Weigh-in will be at 4:00 with the pull starting at 5:00. Any non-member who wants to come and support John, will not be charged a membership fee to pull. There are bleachers for those wanting to watch and a concession stand. Shalersville Historical Society Fundraiser

Free Computer Training at Windham Library

Portage County District Library has been partnering with Connect Ohio to offer free computer training sessions to Portage County residents. The training sessions offered will provide basic Internet training such as computer basics, an introduction to the Internet, and email basics.
