Geauga Park District 5K

Registration is open for Geauga Park District’ first-ever athletic event – the Caveman Crawl 5K Trail Run on Sunday, June 12, at The West Woods in Russell Township. Race time is 9 a.m.; registration starts at 7:30 a.m.; and free food will follow. All ages are welcome. Senior Combine

The 2011 Hiram College Senior Combine is for athletes who are entering the 12th grade as of the fall of 2011. Our Senior Combine is a two-day camp held on June 24 & 25 and is designed to inform you on Hiram’s academic programs, campus living, and football program The camp will include individual skill and technique drills along with a combine (40 yard dash, bench press, broad jump, pro-shuttle). The overnight camper registration deadline is June 10th, 2011. There is open enrollment for day campers. Freedom Township Brush Pick up

Freedom Township will be doing the monthly brush pickup the first Monday of the month. Residents must call 330-527-4094 or 330 527-7414 prior to 8 am Monday morning to arrange for pickup. Twigs, branches and brush (no garbage) will be picked up curbside.

Eagle Creek Conservation Club Fishing Derby

The Eagle Creek Conservation Club is pleased to announce that they will be holding their annual youth fishing derby on Sunday, June 5, 2011. The event will take place at the Newton Falls Community Center pond located at 52 East Quarry Street in Newton Falls. The derby is a free event open to all children ages 15 and under. Registration begins at 11am and the contest will run from noon until 2pm. The event has been a local tradition for years. The fishing derby is held to help foster children’s appreciation of the outdoors and interest in fishing. Windham Free Community Dinner

A free community dinner will be served June 9th, at the Brick Chapel, 9003 N. Main St. Windham. Barbequed chicken sandwiches will be featured. The dinner will be served from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., while supply lasts. All are welcome, bring your friends. The dinner is provided by the Congregational UCC of Windham. Observatory Park: From The Ground To The Galaxies

Mr. Tom Curtin, executive Director of the Geauga Park District, will discuss the park system’s newest and largest endeavor, Observatory Park, at the Burton Public Library on Thursday, June 9 at 7 p.m. This exciting new 1,100 acre park is currently under construction and will be home to the Oberle Observatory. Amateur Radio Field Day Event

The Portage County Amateur Radio Service (PCARS) will be holding its sixth annual Field Day event at the Ravenna City Park on Oakwood Street in Ravenna from 2 p.m. Sat, June 25th until 2 p.m. on Sun, June 26th. Field Day is sponsored nationally by the American Radio Relay League as a field operation for ham radio operators who provide emergency communications as well as a public demonstration of amateur radio activities. Community members and public officials are invited to stop by and learn more about amateur radio and the many facets of the hobby. There will even be a station for members of the public to operate on the air.
