People Tree Donations

This year the People Tree is in need more than ever before. The suppliers of our toys in the past years are now unable to provide us with toys. Toys are needed for walk-in families. Other needed items are as follows: food, coats, hats, gloves, boots, misc. household items and personal care products. Items can be dropped off at the Library, Bay Window, Huntington Bank, Middlefield Bank, Rite Aid and the Garden Bistro. 2011 Chamber Calendars

The Garrettsville Area Chamber Photo Contest Calendars are on sale now.  The 2011 calendars make a great holiday gift ~ $6 each or 2/$10.  Calendars are available at Middlefield Bank, James A Garfield Historical Society, and Village Bookstore.  Calendars can also be picked up at the craft show at Village Hall during the Christmas Walk.

i-Pad Raffle

The James A. Garfield All Sports Boosters are selling tickets for a chance to win an i-Pad. Tickets are $5/each or 5 for $20. The drawing will be held on December 18th during the varsity girls’ basketball home game. Tickets can be obtained through any booster member or by calling Kerstin at (440) 548-2535. This would make a great Christmas gift!

Donut Holes

Boy Scout Troop 62 will be making their homemade jumbo donut holes during Christmas Walk hours in front of the Village Hall on High Street. Stop by for a delicious treat.

Bell Ringers Needed

Seniors – young and old – are welcome to lunch on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Oct and Nov will be covered dish at noon at the Braceville United Methodist Church.

Child Advocates Needed

CASA (Child Appointed Special Advocates) for KIDS of Geauga County is recruiting volunteers to advocate for the “best interest” of abused and neglected children involved in the juvenile court. No particular background is required. You must be at least 25 years of age and have no criminal record. Couples may work together. 32 hours of pre-service training is provided. Influenza Vaccinations

The Geauga County Health District will offer seasonal influenza vaccinations on Friday mornings from 8:30-11am at 470 Center Street, Bldg. 8 in Chardon. No appt necessary and is available to anyone age 19 and older. The cost is $25. Traditional Medicare Part B, there is no charge. J. A. Garfield Drama Presentation

James A. Garfield Drama presents “I Was a Teenage Chameleon”, a comedy in TWO acts by Eddie McPherson. Friday Nov 12 and Saturday Nov 13 at 7:30PM in the Iva Walker Auditorium. Tickets are $5/adults, $3/students & seniors, and free for children under age 10. This comedy is full of funny moments, but also symbolically delivers an important message to ALL, teens and adults alike.

Public Observatory Night

On Saturday, Nov 13: Stephens Memorial Observatory of Hiram College will host a free public observing night from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, weather permitting.  On the observing list are the First Quarter Moon, planet Jupiter and its Galilean Moons, the Pleiades star cluster, and possibly other objects of interest. The Observatory is located on Wakefield Road (Rt. 82) less than a quarter of a mile west of Route 700 in Hiram. Santa Shoppe

Girl Scout Troop 1324 will host a Santa Shoppe on Nov 13th from 9am-3pm at the Claridon Town Hall, 13930 Mayfield Road (corner of Claridon-Troy Rd. and US 322). Admission is free. Spaghetti Dinner Benefit

A spaghetti dinner benefit will be held on Nov 13th at 4pm at Windham Fire Station. Proceeds will benefit Lenny Polichena to help with his medical expenses. The cost is $8/for ages 13-adult, $5/ages 3-12 and free for ages 2 and under. Carryouts will be available. There will also be a raffle held for a 42” HD television and a Chinese auction.

After Prom Scotch Doubles

The J. A. Garfield Junior Class will sponsor their annual Scotch Doubles Bowling to raise funds for prom. Join in the fun on Saturday, Nov 13th from 5-8:30pm. 4 C’s 2010 Craft Show

The 4 C’s food cupboard will host the 2010 Craft Show on Nov 13th from 9am-3pm at the Shalersville Town Hall on the corner of Rts. 44 and 303. Twenty-two crafters with a variety of unique items will be on display. Lunch will also be offered and includes homemade soups, chili, sandwiches, homemade pies and desserts. There will also be a quilt raffle and door prizes raffled throughout the day with a grand prize raffled at the end of the show (winner need not be present). For every non-perishable food item donated to the 4 C’s, a free raffle ticket will be given. Raffle tickets may also be purchased at the door. Please come and support the 4 C’s Food Cupboard.

The James A Garfield band boosters will host a Two-Grand Dinner on Saturday, Nov. 13th at 6pm at Sugarbush Golf Club. Join us for a reverse raffle/silent auction to benefit the Marching Pride uniform fund. Our current uniforms are over 27 years old! Ice Age Program

Geauga Park District presents Ice Age Indians on Sunday, Nov 14th from 1-3pm at The West Woods Nature Center. Everyone school age and older is invited to join in this exploration of Paleo-Indian lifestyle with a dramatic survival game, caribou hunting simulation and bartering of essential materials.  Activities will be indoor/outdoor. “It’s a Wonderful Life”

“It’s a Wonderful Life” the holiday classic of our time based on the film by Frank Capra and adapted by James W. Rodgers, will be performed live at the Geauga Theater this Dec. This version is not a musical, however there will still be music included at the production. A talented Children Chorus will perform. The cost is $15/adults, $13/students and seniors and $5/children 10 and under. A canned food donation will receive $2 off the ticket price (excluding the special children’s price of $5). Santa Is Coming To Town

Night at the Races

Mantua Soccer Association will host A Night at the Races with the District One National Show Horse Association on Saturday, Dec 4th from 6pm-midnight at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 11845 St. Rt. 44 in Mantua. The cost is $35/couple or $20/single and includes dinner, beer and wine. There will also be a silent auction, raffles, sideboards and instant bingo. Name your own horse for $10. Cornhole Tournament
