4-Way Speech Contest
Sign Up Today!
Student in grades 9 through 12 in James A. Garfield or Windham High Schools are invited to participate in the 4-Way Speech Contest sponsored by the Garrettsville-Hiram Rotary Club.  Check with principals, speech teachers, Interact advisors or go to the website for Rotary District 6630 for more information.  The local prizes are $100 for first place and $50 for second place.  The district reward is $750.  Competition for the local club will be held on March 10 or March 17.  Sign up now!

Benefit Book Sale

Volunteers Needed
Adult daycare looking for someone to come once a month and play the piano for seniors. We are also in need of a therapy dog to come visit with seniors once a month. Pancake & Sausage Breakfasts

The Parkman Chamber of Commerce is hosting their 45th annual Pancake and Sausage Breakfasts at the Parkman Community House (16295 Main Market – Rt. 422) on Sundays: March 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Adults eat for $8.00; children – $4.00 (Pre-schoolers are free). Adult take-outs are also available.  Our pancakes are served on real plates (no disposables here) and we use only real Geauga County maple syrup.  Our own secret recipe is used for our sausage patties.  You can even buy some sausage to take home and enjoy after our pancake breakfasts are done for the year.  Gather your friends and family and join us for breakfast!

Brighter Day Pancake Supper

The 9th Annual Eating of the Pancakes will be held on March 4th from 5:30-7:30 pm in the Fellowship Hall of Hilltop Christian Church at 4572 W. Prospect St., Mantua. In addition to free pancakes, bacon, sausage, juice, milk and coffee, there will also be prizes, crafts and plenty of fellowship to go around. World Day of Prayer

Messiah Lutheran Church in Newton Falls, is hosting this year’s World Day of Prayer worship service on March 7th at 11 am. There will be a covered dish luncheon after the service and everyone is invited to bring a dish to share.

The Mantua Knights of Columbus are once again hosting their Annual Lenten Dinners every Friday during Lent 3/07- 4/11. Location will be at their hall on S.R.44 (North of S.R. 82). Door will be open 5:00-8:00 p.m. Serving ends at 7:30 pm. Enjoy your choice of combinations of Pierogis, All new Baked, Beer Battered Cod or Breaded shrimp. All dinners include: two hot vegetables; choice of coleslaw or apple sauce; rolls and butter; beverage and fresh desserts. Takeout’s available after 4:30 p.m. by calling 330-274-2576. West Branch State Park:
Searching for Little Foot
March 8
At over 8,000 acres of land and water, West Branch is one of the largest parks in the state. Naturalist Bob Faber will lead an exploration of the rolling forested landscape and the extensive shoreline that surrounds the Kirwan Reservoir at 10:00 am. We will be searching for tracks and signs of creatures that live in the area. Extensive oak-hickory and beech-maple woodlands, beaver colonies, and an extensive reach of open lake all contribute to a rich variety of wildlife. BioBuddies: Life Under a Log!
March 17, 24, & 31
BioBuddies provides hands-on, developmentally appropriate nature experiences for early learners (ages 3-5). During Life Under a Log children will explore the creepy, crawly critters that live under logs in the forest, including salamanders, worms, potato bugs, millipedes and much more. In the process, children will explore habitats, the differences between living and nonliving things, and make a terrarium. St. Ambrose Parish will present The Miracles of Jesus on March 19th at 7pm in the church. The Stations of the Cross will be presented by the high school Religion class on March 21st at 7pm. Original Sewing & Quilting Expo Bus Trip

The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is sponsoring a bus trip to the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo (www.sewingexpo.com) at the Cleveland IX Center on April 4th.   Cost of $33.00 for members and $37.00 for non-members includes admission, a free class ($19.00 value), a shopping bag, a commemorative pin, and bus transportation.    Your reservation must be paid by March 21st. Geauga County Master Gardeners present master of bonsai, Dale Harder, from The Cleveland Bonsai Club.  Learn about the history, origin and meaning of the ancient art of bonsai and how you can get started in creating your own bonsai tree.  Dale will display a few of his own creations.  Enjoy a demonstration and instructions in choosing the right plant, tools and pruning techniques.  Light refreshments provided. $15 fee.  While walk-ins are welcome, early registration is appreciated.  Call 440-834-4656 to register.

Shooting Stars Soccer

Shooting Stars Soccer teaches children 3 and 4 years, with help from parents and instructors, the basic skills of soccer.   Non-competitive games will be played throughout this five week program and each child will receive a t-shirt.  Fee for Ravenna city taxpayer is $32 and non-city taxpayers is $35. T-Ball

Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an instructional T-ball program for boys and girls ages 4 and 6; child must be at least 4 years old before May 31st. The fundamentals of basic baseball / softball are taught as children learn better throwing, catching and batting techniques using tennis balls and batting tees. Classes will be held on Saturdays May 31st to June 28th from 10-11:15am. at Havre Woods Park in Ravenna.  Registration fee for City Taxpayers (live or work in the Ravenna City) is $32.00 or Non-City Taxpayers is $40.00.

Hambden Grange Concerts

The Huntsburg Grange has bandstand concerts set for June 21 with Boys Are Back, and July 19 with Fort Huntsburg Band.  Concerts start at 6 PM, rain or shine.  If it rains, concerts are held on the town hall stage.   Bring your lawn chair.  Refreshments will be available. The Chaney High School Class of 1974 40th Class Reunion scheduled for the third weekend of July.  Please save the date and spread the word. The celebration starts on July 18th and the CHS Class of 1974 Invites All Chaney 70’s Graduates to “Come As You Were, Friday Night Fever Party”  at Kuzmans  Lounge.  Cost $5.00 per person.
