Instrument Drive

The Windham Band is having an instrument drive over the next 2 months. We are seeking any used band instruments in good condition or donations toward the purchase of new instruments for the band program at Windham. Storytime at the Library

Windham Library invites kids of all ages to its storytime on Mondays at 10:30 am.   Storytime is an opportunity for both the parent and child to spend some one-on-one time enriching the child’s environment with stories, music, finger plays and movement. NFYBSL – youth baseball/softball signups boys and girls ages 5-14 will be Feb 1st and 8th from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm and Feb 5th from 5-8pm at the Newton Falls Community Center, 52 East Quarry. All new players must bring a *copy* of birth certificate.

 

Book Sale

The Friends of the Hiram College Library will hold their next book sale on Feb 4th through Feb 8th.  Hours are Tuesday and Wednesday 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday and Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Hardcover books are $1.00; paperbacks, CDs, DVDs, and other miscellaneous items are $.50.  The library is located at 11694 Hayden Street in Hiram.

 

Valentine Craft

Make a cute Valentine craft Feb 6th through 14th. Crafts are open to all ages during the library’s hours of operation.  Young adults who love doing crafts are invited to sign-up for Windham Library’s Craft Club.  The craft club will meet once a month and do a selection of in-depth crafts. Taco Fiesta

JAG Softball Taco Fiesta will be Feb 7th from 4-7 in the High School commons. Tickets are six dollars and will get you all you can eat beef and chicken tacos, hard and soft shells, rice, chips and salsa and punch. Proceeds go to the JAG high school softball team. Spring Soccer

Registration for co-ed youth spring soccer with Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is being held on Feb 10th for children 5 years old to sixth graders.  After Feb 23rd a $10 late fee will be charged.  Registration will be taken at the Recreation Office 530 N. Freedom St, Ravenna or register on-line at www.ci.ravenna.oh.us . Practice begin in early April.

Friend of Library Meeting

The Friends of the Garrettsville Library announce an upcoming meeting Feb 11th at 5:30pm. The meeting will take place in the meeting room of the Garrettsville Branch of the Portage County District Library. The Friends of the Garrettsville Library are interested in seeking a new President and, if you are interested, you are encouraged to attend the meeting. Elections for officers will be held in May and elected individuals will take office in June. Free Community Dinner

A free Dinner will be served on Feb. 13th from 5-6 pm at the Brick Chapel, 9003 N. Main Street Windham. The dinner is open to all! Free Community Dinners are served on the second Thursday of each month, by the Congregational United Church of Christ. Come eat at these great community meals. The Brick Chapel is handicapped accessible with new accessible bathrooms. There is a ramp at the front door of the dining room. Please come enjoy the good food and fellowship!

 

Valentines Dinner Dance

A romantic Valentines “Celebration of Love” will be held at Christ Covenant Church, Rte 87, Middlefield on Feb 14th. Dinner will be held at the church at 6:30 pm, with dancing at Swine Creek Lodge following dinner. Tickets (donation $20 per plate) will include a dance lesson at Crossroads Dance, Middlefield, Saturday morning, Feb 8th. Seating is limited and reservations are required. Free Clothing Giveaway

On February 15th from 9 am until noon, the Mantua Center Christian Church will be hosting a clothing giveaway for the area’s folks in need. Clothing in sizes to suit babies and children, women and men. Tell your friends and family to come and “shop” for lots of great clothing, shoes, coats and outerwear. All items are clean and ready to wear out the door. The Mantua Center Church is located at the corner of State Route 82 and Mantua Center Road in Mantua Township.

 

Swiss Steak Dinner

Ladies Auxiliary Unit 674 will be hosting a Swiss Steak Dinner on Feb 15th from 8 till 11. Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are. All ages are invited to join the count Feb 15 and 16, anytime between noon and 4 p.m. for some warm bird watching at The West Woods’ awesome wildlife feeding window. Attendees will also be able to view results as they come in on our computer and learn from Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists which types of seeds and feeders are the most successful. The West Woods Nature Center is located at 9465 Kinsman Road (Route 87), Russell Township, and is wheelchair/stroller accessible. A Pancake Breakfast, hosted by Garrettsville’s BSA Troop 4262 will be held Feb 22nd at the Garrettsville United Methodist Church, 8223 Park Ave in Garrettsville, from 8am-noon. Fresh Blueberry and Old Fashioned Buttermilk Pancakes with warm syrup, sausage and assorted beverages to drink. A suggested donation of $5.00 for adults, kids 4-12 years $3.00 and children 3 and under, free.

 

3rd Annual Fred Haney Tournament

Please register your team for the 3rd annual Fred Haney winter softball tournament. First 8 teams only this year. All games played at Time Out Sports Bar in Freedom, OH. Christ Episcopal Craft Show

Mark your calendar for March 1st for the Christ Episcopal Craft Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. located at 2627 Atlantic St NE Warren, OH.  Admission is $2.00 and Parking is Free! There are over 50 crafters/vendors to showcase their unique items and products. We have baked goods, soy candles, jewelry, wreaths, florals, goats milk soaps, stained glass items, embroidery and crochet crafts, infinity scarves, homemade candy, glass block lights,  cards, cornhole boards, Pampered Chef, Pink Zebra, Miche Bags, Scentsy Candles, Thirty One Bags, and so much more. A Chinese auction will be held with baskets full of goodies to be given away. Delicious hot food will also be available. There is sure to be something for everyone. Come out and join us for an enjoyable day of crafts, shopping and fun. Invite all your family and friends! Proceeds for the craft show go toward our outreach ministries at the church.

 

Chili Cook- Off

Original Sewing & Quilting Expo Bus Trip

The Niles Chapter of the American Sewing Guild is sponsoring a bus trip to the Original Sewing and Quilting Expo (www.sewingexpo.com) at the Cleveland IX Center on April 4th.   Cost of $33.00 for members and $37.00 for non-members includes admission, a free class ($19.00 value), a shopping bag, a commemorative pin, and bus transportation.  There are 3 pickup sites:  Austintown Plaza (6:30 am), Niles K-Mart (7:00 am) or Champion Big Lots (7:15 am).  Your reservation must be paid by March 21st. Shooting Stars Soccer

Shooting Stars Soccer teaches children 3 and 4 years, with help from parents and instructors, the basic skills of soccer.   Non-competitive games will be played throughout this five week program and each child will receive a t-shirt.  Fee for Ravenna city taxpayer is $32 and non-city taxpayers is $35. Min 10 and max 14 per session. T-Ball

May 31- June 28

Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an instructional T-ball program for boys and girls ages 4 and 6; child must be at least 4 years old before May 31st. The fundamentals of basic baseball / softball are taught as children learn better throwing, catching and batting techniques using tennis balls and batting tees. Classes will be held on Saturdays May 31st to June 28th from 10-11:15am. at Havre Woods Park in Ravenna.  Registration fee for City Taxpayers (live or work in the Ravenna City) is $32.00 or Non-City Taxpayers is $40.00.

 

Hambden Grange Concerts

June 21 & July 19

The Huntsburg Grange has bandstand concerts set for June 21 with Boys Are Back, and July 19 with Fort Huntsburg Band.  Concerts start at 6 PM, rain or shine.  If it rains, concerts are held on the town hall stage.   Bring your lawn chair.  Refreshments will be available. Chaney High School Reunion

The Chaney High School Class of 1974 40th Class Reunion scheduled for the third weekend of July.  Please save the date and spread the word. The celebration starts on July 18th and the CHS Class of 1974 Invites All Chaney 70’s Graduates to “Come As You Were, Friday Night Fever Party”  at Kuzmans  Lounge.  Cost $5.00 per person.
