Bainbridge Swing Dance

Blues DeVille will be playing live at the Bainbridge Swing Dance on Aug 2nd at the Bainbridge Township Town Hall (17826 Chillicothe Road aka Route 306; Chagrin Falls, Ohio 44023).  Blues DeVille is known for playingBlues, Swing, Old Soul, even a little Zydeco. Dance lesson at 8pm. Dance and live music 9-11:30pm. Adult $10, student $8, family $25.

North Jackson Citizens Association’s Community-wide Yard Sales Days will be Aug 2nd and 3rd starting at 9am. Maps to locate 150 addresses will be available the morning of the sales at 11349 W. Mahoning Ave. where there is free parking and at businesses.

Free Meal

First Church of God of Windham, 9016 N Main St, will host their monthly free meal, August 3 from 5-7pm.  This month’s dinner will be a cookout on the church property and will include a s’mores night with a fire; everyone can cook and make their own s’mores.  All food items will be provided and everyone is welcome to attend.  For questions call 330-671-1426

Taco Supper & Monthly Dance

On August 3rd Portage County Chapter #600 Parents Without Partners will have a taco supper from 6:30-7:30pm and its monthly dance from 7:30-10:30pm at the Ritchie Memorial Shelter House, 109 West Avenue in Tallmadge. Event is open to the public and nonmembers are invited to join the PWP members to celebrate the “Fiesta Night” dance theme. The cost for the dance is $6 per person for members and $8 for nonmembers. Annual Trunk Sale

The Third Annual Trunk Sale will be held on August 3rd from 9am to 1pm at Harrington Square in Cortland Banks parking lot area, in Middlefield, between McDonalds and Wal-Mart.  Free to shoppers.  There will be “Fair Food” at the Trunk Sale, as well as all the regular lunch, snacks and restaurants right there.  Come and find your treasures here.  If you would like to be a vendor, call the Middlefield Chamber for info at 440-632-5705 or emailmccinfo@middlefieldcc.com.  Spaces are $20 each or two spaces for $35.  Rain or shine event.  The Chamber is non-profit and proceeds will go to School Safety Program and other community projects.

Alumni Soccer Game

The Crestwood High School Boys Soccer Team will be hosting their annual Alumni Soccer Game on August 3rd @ 6:00 pm at the Bowen Rd. field (11256 Bowen Rd in Mantua).  All Crestwood Boys Soccer Alumni are invited to play.  The cost is $10.00 & includes T-shirt & picnic hosted by the current Crestwood boys’ team and families following the game. Free Youth Archery Clinic

The Eagle Creek Conservation Club will be conducting a Free Youth Archery Clinic August 3rd. The event will take place at the club property located at 5525 Eagle Creek Road, Leavittsburg, Ohio 44430. The event is free and open to all children ages 6 to 15. Doors open at 8:30am for registration and the fun will start at approximately 9am. This program is designed to help foster children’s interest in archery and provide a basic knowledge of the sport. All youth archers will be taught basic safety and shooting techniques. Kent Lions Club 6th Annual Sweet Corn Festival at Beckwith Orchard 1617 Lake Rockwell Rd from Noon – 5pm on Aug 3rd & 4th.  Ear-resistable fun for all ages.  Hot Dogs, sausage sandwiches, peach and apple pie, boiled sweet corn, & ice cream available for purchase.  Live entertainment, free trolley rides, face painting, clown, and craft vendors.  Proceeds fund Lions Sight Projects

Tennis Camp

Tennis Camp with Ravenna Parks & Recreation held August 5 to 8 (rain date is August 9). From 8:30-10:30am for ages 5 to 15 years. Fee is $27.00 for city taxpayers and $32.00 for non-city taxpayers.  Please bring a water bottle. Min 12 – max 30.  Deadline to register is August 2. After August 2 there is a $10 late fee. Crestwood Primary Offers Summer Safety Town Program

Crestwood Primary School (CPS), in conjunction with their PTO, is offering Safety Town for Fall 2013 kindergarteners. The program will run from August 5 – 9 at CPS from 9 – 11:30 am and will cover fire, bus, playground safety, stranger awareness and other important topics to help your child learn to stay safe. Register by July 1 at a reduced rate of $25 per child. If space allows, late registration will be taken on August 5 at a cost of $35 per child. Summer Music Camp

The Garfield band department is again offering its summer music camp for all band students entering 6th through 8th grade.  The camp is August 5-9 and the students will perform a concert on August 9th at 7pm.  The cost of the camp is $35 and includes a t-shirt and a pizza party. Chicken Dinner

The Southington UMC, Routes 305 & 534 in Southington, will be holding a Chicken Dinner on August 7th from 3:30-6pm. The menu includes ¼ chicken, escalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, coleslaw, and homemade desserts – Cost is $8.00 for adults. Children’s meal with chicken tenders – ages 4 thru 10 – cost is $4.00. Children 3 and under eat free. Carry outs will be available – call (330) 898-2156 and they will be ready for pick up.

Community Center Activities

Starting August 7 we hope to have the Mantua Center School cafeteria wing open for community center activities every Wednesday from 10am to 4pm.  There will be a potluck lunch at noon, cards and board games to play, a jigsaw puzzle to assemble.  We’re open to suggestions for additional activities.  You don’t have to be a township resident or a senior to participate.  All are welcome, including supervised children.  Bring a friend or make a new one.

Luau at Harvest Point

Harvest Point Church, 6100 Tod Ave., Unit 4, Lordstown, Ohio, will be holding their 4th Annual Luau on August 10th from noon- 3 pm at Central Park in Lordstown.  The park is located at the intersection of Tod Ave. and Salt Springs Rd.  This year’s event will include a Farmer’s Market, baked goods, family pictures, door prizes, various games and foods as well as haircuts for school age children by a licensed beautician.  All of this and so much more and it is all FREE!!!

Memorial Golf Outing

Sugar Bush Golf Course will be the site of the First Annual Jeremy Collins Foundation Memorial Golf Outing, August 10th.  The event is open to the public and is in support of offering scholarship funds to some of the hard-working, involved, “good kid” students who may have a lot of potential but “slip through the cracks” on their way to their dreams.  Contact a Collins (Mitch, Tom, Chuck, Patty, Tina–there’s a bunch of them–or Jessica Kohler at the Charles Auto Family) for more information or to sign up to sponsor a hole.

Outdoor Worship

Join Windham United Methodist Church at 9051 N. Main St. Windham, for outdoor worship, August 11th at 10 am.  Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on and stay after church for a potluck.  Worshipping outdoors has a special energy and accompanying worship is local boy Cullen Davis.  Cullen was one of this year’s Garrettsville Idol contestants.

Room Mothers’ Luncheon

The Freedom Township School Room Mothers’ 2013 Luncheon will be at noon on August 13th at the Freedom Township Hall. All room mothers and mothers who have fond memories of their child’s school years at the Freedom School are invited along with their guests. Those attending should bring a dish to share with serving utensil and their own table service. Meat, rolls and beverage will be furnished.

The First Church of God in Newton Falls is sponsoring a “trunk sale” during the community-wide garage sale on August 16th and 17th.  The sale will be set up in the parking lot at the corner of Ridge Road and Broad Street (great exposure).  The cost for a spot is $10.00.  To reserve a spot call the church at 330-872-7911.  There will also be a food stand with bratwurst sandwiches, walking tacos and other food items.

NF Community Yard Sale

During the Newton Falls Community-wide Yard Sale August 16-18th from 9-5 each day, the Senior Community of Newton Commons, Village & Manor will be having a yard sale at the community room near the office. People of these buildings will be able to have a table in that room, because the room is so small. No permit is needed. Tables are free and first come first serve.
