Secret Garden: A private blend of art and nature

Visit the beautiful Draime Estate Gardens on the north edge of Warren from 10:00-11:30am. This private estate is closed to the public and its specialty gardens are managed by Kent State University. A variety of rare and native plants are found in the well planned perennial garden, the formal English and Italian gardens, conifer collection, walled gardens, and water gardens. Ride and Raise funds for our local Veterans.

Motorcyclists can participate in a 2-hour scenic ride through beautiful Geauga County on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The ride starts at Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH (14373 N Cheshire St) and will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, “Midge”. Registration opens at 8:00am and the $25.00 per motorcycle fee includes breakfast. Tae Kwon Do

New session of Tae Kwon Do will be held from July 2nd-30th at Lake Hodgson – Apco Lodge (except for, July 4th & 9th) in Ravenna for ages 7 years to adults, male or female.  Tae Kwon Do emphasizes self-discipline, exercise, and martial art skills.  Instructors work with students individually and as a group on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm. Participants must have a mouthpiece on first night.  Male students are required to wear protective gear after the second week. Cost is $40 and is paid the first night to the instructors. What’s all the Racquet?

If you have wanted to pick-up, dust off, or rediscover your tennis savvy, July may be the month for you. Every Saturday in July from 8 till 9am, there will be a very informal tennis “Clinic”, on the courts in Windham Park. Alan Finn in co-operation with the Parks department and supported by the Windham UMC, will help teach the “basics” of the game. There is no age restriction, but we will only be going over the fundamentals of the game. There is no fee, and some equipment is available for use if needed. Have experience, but having a hard time finding others who play, stop by @ 9am after the clinic.

Annual 5K Freedom Run & 1 Mile Mutt Strut

Annual 5K Freedom Run & 1 Mile Mutt Strut will be July 7th. Race sponsored by Freedom Greyhound Rescue of Aurora.  Registration time: 8am.  Race time: 9am. The race be held at, 8819 North Spring Valley Park Dr. in Bainbridge Twp., 44023.  Pre-registration is $15.00 before July 5, & $20 on race day. Free Water Well Testing

Tennis Lessons

Ravenna Parks and Rec is offering Youth Tennis lessons Mondays & Wednesdays, July 8 to July 31, 2013 at John Tontimonia City Park Tennis Courts.  Ages 6 to 10 years from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., ages 11 to 14 years from 11:10 to 12:10 p.m.  City taxpayer fee is $32; non-city taxpayers pay $37.  Participants should bring own racquet. Fun Time Fitness Tumbling

Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is offering a, Fun Time Fitness Tumbling class each Tuesday July 9th – 30th from 10-11am. The cost for this activity is City residents: $35.00 and Non-residents: $40.00. Beginning July 3 there will be a $10.00 late fee if openings still remain. It is a 1 hour class hosted by American Kids Unlimited. Fun Time Fitness is a well-balanced program with activities focusing on strength, endurance, and balance! Spelling Bee

The 27th Annual Spelling Bee sponsored by Trumbull Retired Teachers will be held on July 11, at 1 pm at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds on Everett-Hull Road . Preregistration for grades 1 through 8 will begin on May 13, and will accepted until June 13. Free admission to the fair (excluding rides) will be offered to all preregistered spellers. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

The Garrettsville Curtains up Theatre will present “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” on July 12, 13, 19, 20th at 7pm and July 14, 2013 at 2pm in the James A. Garfield, Iva Walker Auditorium – starring Megan Ryser as Snow White and Ben Vizy as the Prince.  Direction of this production is by Justin Steck and Music Direction by Eric Juzkiw.  This production is a fairy tale play by Jessie Braham White based on the story of the Brothers Grimm. Travel with the Young of Heart

St. Anselm Young of Heart has a trip planned to Springfield and Chicago, IL July 22-25. A day will be spent touring Springfield, “The Land of Lincoln. “ A visit will be made to the Lincoln Museum, the Old State Capitol, the Lincoln Tomb and more. Then they will go to Chicago and have a guided tour of the town, visit the Navy Pier, the Shedd Aquarium, the observation deck at the Willis Tower, go on a cruise, and have fun at the Tommy Guns Garage dinner show. Six meals are included. Cost is $568 ($580 non-members). Final payment is due July 5th. Theater Clinic

Ravenna Recreation Department is offering a Summer Theater Clinic for boys and girls under the direction of Ric Hughes, Director of the Ravenna All-City Musical.   The Clinic will be held July 22nd – August 8th – Monday through Friday at West Park School.  Registration is now through July 14th. Beginning July 15th there is a $10 late fee if any openings.  Cost is $20 for city taxpayers or $25 for non-city taxpayers.   Fee includes breakfast each morning.  Children 4th- 7th grade in the fall 2013 : 8-9:15am. Children K – 3rd grade in the fall 2013: 8:45 – 10 am. Whether you are a beginner or advanced student there is something for everyone in this clinic. Registration is open for the 3rd Annual Mission Possible Diabetes Family Event at Ravenna High School on July 27.  The day will include several educational sessions focusing on diabetic health, expert advice, free snacks, lunch, giveaways, and exhibitors with information.  Some of the topics will include: Obesity & Diabetes, Preventing long term complications, Diabetic Drugs, and Truth behind Diabetes and Your Feet. Crestwood Primary School (CPS), in conjunction with their PTO, is offering Safety Town for Fall 2013 kindergarteners. The program will run from August 5 – 9 at CPS from 9 – 11:30 am and will cover fire, bus, playground safety, stranger awareness and other important topics to help your child learn to stay safe.
