5K Race / 1 Mile Fun Run / Walk

Register Today!

The Garrettsville SummerFest and the Friends of Melana Foundation (www.stopkidscancer.org) is planning the 3rd Annual 5k Race and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk.  It will be held on June 30th, in downtown Garrettsville at 9:00 AM. Come out and support a great cause.  All proceeds from the event go towards research for the most dreaded childhood disease, glioma brain cancer.  Currently research for this disease is grossly underfunded. Race registration can be made on-line at www.summerfest5k.eventbrite.com.  Walkers are welcome to participate in both events.  Participants are encouraged to obtain pledge donations.  Pledge forms can be obtained on the website and all pledge monies can be turned in the day of the event.

Yoga Classes

General James A. Garfield is Coming to Mantua!

On June 9th, at 7:00 pm, Wayne Enders, portraying General James A. Garfield, will be at the Mantua Christian Church’s sanctuary, which is located on the historic Mantua Center Green (S. R. #82 and Mantua Center Road).  During the presentation, General Garfield will appear as a newly elected congressman to northeast Ohio, a retired major general of the Rebellion and a past president of Hiram College.  This program is FREE and open to the public; light refreshments will be served.

Kingdom Rock

A summer kids’ event called Kingdom Rock will be hosted at Friendship Alliance Church from June 10th-14th. Kids will participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats, experience epic Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them to stand strong, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they’ll take home and play with all summer long.  Kingdom Rock is for kids from ages 4 through 6th grade and will run from 9-11:45am each day.  On Friday we will have a light lunch after the finale. “Supper at the Center”

June 12

On the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm, March thru November, the Mantua Center Christian Church (on the township green at the corner of SR82 and Mantua Center Road)  invites all who would enjoy the fellowship of a shared meal to “Supper at the Center.”  (This event broadens the invitation to meal for seniors formerly known as “Over the Hill.”)  Menu varies, but is a full meal, usually including a selection of homemade pies for dessert.  No reservations required.  A donation basket is passed, with any excess above expenses going to charitable causes selected by the women’s group of the church.

Let’s Build a Community

June 19

Let’s Build Community at the Center.  Open community days at the gymnasium at the old Mantua Center School, 11741 Mantua Center Rd. (just north of SR 82) will continue, but now on the first and third Wednesdays (changed from Tuesday) of each month, with reduced hours of 10am to 4 pm.  Potluck lunch at noon.  Meet with friends, or make some new ones.  Play cards or other games, learn quilt piecing or crochet.  Help work a challenging new jigsaw puzzle which was started on May first.  Not just for seniors!  Folks of all ages are invited, but youngsters must have supervision.


Computer Recycling

The James A. Garfield School District will be conducting a computer recycling campaign June 19th & 20th.  Community members may drop off old computers at the bus garage from 6 am – 8pm on June 19th, and 6am – 2pm on June 20th.

The Geauga County Help Me Grow Program is holding its annual children’s clothing and toy giveaway on June 21st at The Metzenbaum Center, 8200 Cedar Road. All Geauga families are invited to attend this free event between 10am and 12pm. We will be accepting donations of gently used children’s clothing and toys from June 17th through June 19th. We are not able to accept stuffed animals, cribs or car seats. Trumbull Mobile Meals Golf Outing

The 8th Annual Trumbull Mobile Meals Golf Outing will feature a 10:00 Shotgun Start, June 21, 2013 at the Riverview Golf Course in Newton Falls, OH.  All golfers will receive a morning snack, lunch, and a Saratoga steak dinner after the event.  Door prizes, skill prizes, team prizes, favors, skins and mulligans, 50/50 raffle and much more will make for a great day of fun and fellowship.  If you are unable to golf, but would still like to help, TMM would appreciate your support in any way possible. The Rotary Club of Mantua is sponsoring the 9th annual Farmers Market. The location will be at the Christ Lutheran Church parking lot at 10827 S.R 44, in Mantua.  The market will run every Saturday, from June 22 – October 12. Youth Fishing Education Program

The Eagle Creek Conservation Club is presenting a free fishing clinic for all boys and girls ages 4 to 15 on June 29from 9:30am to 2pm. The program is aimed at teaching the basic fishing techniques needed to help kids get the most enjoyment out of their time spent on the water. The class is broken up into four segments, each lasting approximately 20 minutes. Anyone wishing to attend the event MUST PRE-REGISTER by June 22. Spaces for this event are limited, so get your reservation made as soon as possible. The class will take place at the Eagle Creek Conservation Club, 5525 Eagle Creek Road, Leavittsburg, Ohio, 44430. Doors open at 9:30am and the program will begin at 10am. Lunch will be provided for all attendees after class. Ride and Raise funds for our local Veterans.

Motorcyclists can participate in a 2-hour scenic ride through beautiful Geauga County on Sunday, June 30, 2013. The ride starts at Geauga County Fairgrounds in Burton, OH (14373 N Cheshire St) and will be led by Sheriff Dan McClelland and his dog, “Midge”. Registration opens at 8:00am and the $25.00 per motorcycle fee includes breakfast. Mission Possible Diabetes Family Event

Registration is open for the 3rd Annual Mission Possible Diabetes Family Event at Ravenna High School on July 27.  The day will include several educational sessions focusing on diabetic health, expert advice, free snacks, lunch, giveaways, and exhibitors with information.  Some of the topics will include: Obesity & Diabetes, Preventing long term complications, Diabetic Drugs, and Truth behind Diabetes and Your Feet. Crestwood Primary School (CPS), in conjunction with their PTO, is offering Safety Town for Fall 2013 kindergarteners. The program will run from August 5 – 9 at CPS from 9 – 11:30 am and will cover fire, bus, playground safety, stranger awareness and other important topics to help your child learn to stay safe. This events will be held Aug 10th at The Metzenbaum Center is located at; 8200 Cedar Road, Chesterland. Ride registration is at 8am, ride begins at 9am.
