Voters & Candidates Face2Face…a different kind of candidate forum on April 3 hosted by the League of Women Voters of Kent

673

Kent – Candidates for county, state and Congressional seats have been invited to meet and talk with voters in small groups at an election forum organized by the League of Women Voters of Kent on Thursday, April 3.

Free and open to the public, the forum will start at 7 p.m. at Theodore Roosevelt High School, 1400 N. Mantua St., Kent. The League is co-sponsoring the event with the Portage County NAACP, Kent Environmental Council and Kent Lions. The date was set early this year to reach voters who participate in early voting.

The League has invited candidates for county commissioner, county auditor, county probate and juvenile judge, state representative for the 75th Ohio District and the U.S. House of Representative post for the 13th District. The campaigns for the Portage Park District .5-mill additional levy and the Ravenna City School District 4.9-mill additional levy will attend to talk with voters.

The Kent League has used the small group technique at previous candidate forums and received positive feedback. Voters will be seated at round cafeteria tables. Candidates will start at an assigned table and then move from table-to-table in a set time frame.

At each table the candidate will have a minute to introduce himself or herself after which voters will ask questions. A League member will be at each table to help facilitate the discussion. By the end of the event, each candidate will have an opportunity to meet in this small group setting with all attendees. Voters and candidates will have time after the process to talk further about issues.
