Newton Falls – Venture Plastics, Inc., a full-service, IATF 16949/ISO 9001:2015 certified custom thermoplastics injection molder with processing facilities in Newton Falls, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, is partnering with local non-profit, WingsFor Vincent. Wings for Vincent is a non-profit 501(c)3 created in loving memory of Vincent Venturino, who passed away in March of 2014. He was 14 years old.
“In July of 2016, Venture Plastics initiated a partnership with Carolle and Alan Venturio, the founders of the non-profit Wings for Vincent. Since that time, our company donated several thousand pounds of non-toxic polypropylene pellets used to make the weighted blankets, vests, and lap pads providing relief for children suffering from sensory processing disorders,” stated Gary Flattum, the vice president of Venture Plastics.
Vincent’s Story: In October of 2012, Vincent was diagnosed with a glioblastoma (brain tumor). For a year prior to the diagnosis, the family knew there was something wrong, but could not find any answers.
Vincent was suffering from both mental and physical issues. The family sought help from various specialists before coming across a physician at Akron Children’s Hospital who discovered the source of Vincent’s problems.
Three days after a diagnosis, Vincent had brain surgery followed up with chemotherapy, radiation, and countless hours of therapy. Given the rarity of a Glioblastoma Multiform in children, the family decided to try treatments in a promising field involving targeted cancer gene therapy. Vincent fought a good fight through treatments and therapies. However, he ultimately succumbed to cancer in March of 2014. The family misses him dearly.
Throughout Vincent’s fight, the family encountered exceptional individuals, caregivers, and family support. “The most compassionate moments came when our lives were touched by the smaller local charities that wanted us to know we were not alone. It’s in this spirit that we established Wings ForVincent.”
Weighted blankets, vests, and lap pads are used for those with sensory processing disorders. They reduce anxiety in people experiencing disorders such as: Autism (autism spectrum disorders), Asperger Syndrome, ADD/ADHD, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, Dementia, Restless Legs Syndrome, Sleeping Disorders, and more. The weighted blanket offers deep pressure, without uncomfortable restriction, which in turn makes our bodies produce serotonin and endorphins. When these chemicals are released our bodies feel calm and relaxed. The weighted products act as a “hug” for the child experiencing episodes of anxiety.
Our mission is to supply comfort via weighted products to children suffering from sensory processing disorders. We are making the items available at no charge to children in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, South Carolina, Minnesota and South Dakota.
