Portage Senior Citizens Opportunities
Weekdays
The Portage County Senior Center, located at 705 Oakwood St., in Ravenna has many daily opportunities for local seniors to enjoy. On any given day, you can enjoy, bingo, Tai Chi, educational programs, art class, corn hole, cards & dominos with friends, and they even have a pool table. They serve lunch daily (by reservation) and are open M-F from 9-3. If you would like more information you may call them at 330-297-3456.

Auburn Firedevils Craft Fair Fundraiser
Still searching for consultants and crafters for the craft show scheduled for Saturday, November 10 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. This fundraiser for the Auburn Township Volunteer Fire Department will be held at Adams Hall, Auburn Township. The Phyllis Zumkehr Portage County Clothing Center, which is located at 3377 State Route 59, Ravenna, is looking for volunteers to help with sorting, hanging and stocking clothing and helping customers. Crafters Wanted
The Portage County Gardeners is hosting a Craft Show on Fri. Oct.12, 2018 from 4-8 p.m. and Sat. Oct 13, 2018 from 10 a.m.-3p.m. The total fee for both days is $35.00. For a contract and payment information for 8’ table and space with or without electricity, call Helena now at 330-673-0577.

Donations For Veterans
The Windham A..L.A. is taking donations for our homeless veterans and also Wade Park. We will be accepting all sizes of underclothing and toiletries. Grief Support Group

Grief Group meets every Sunday at 3 pm. The meetings are held at Garrettsville United Methodist Church and last about 1 – 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome. For questions you can call the church at 330-527-2055.

Mondays
Men on Mondays, a men’s Bible study, is held every Monday from 6:45 – 8 pm at the Cellar Door Coffee Shop in Garrettsville. Coffee and pastry will be provided at no charge.

Families Anonymous Meetings

Do you have a family member controlled by drugs or alcohol and don’t know where to turn? Families Anonymous might be the support group you need. Don’t face it ALONE! This 1 hour workshop provides an overview of cyber safety and helps to empower participants to protect themselves from fraud and scams in the cyber world. Materials and handouts are provided by AARP. G-Men Unite Public Information Session

There will be a public information session for the Earned Income Tax Issue on Sept 5 at 6pm in the Iva L. Walker Auditorium at the high school. Come to learn more about the District’s plan to keep our community, schools and future bright!
Attendees will receive information about the upcoming Earned Income Tax Issue, and have the opportunity to have their questions answered. A livestream of the session will also be provided, and online questions will be accepted during or after the Q&A portion.

The Portage County Senior Center will be holding another “Lunch & Learn” event on Thursday, September 6th. We are proud to collaborate with Hiram College to bring area seniors a presentation entitled “Frankenstein, Harrowing or Helpful”. We ask seniors to be here by 11:00 in order that we can serve lunch before the program begins at 11:30. The presentation will last about an hr. and space is limited so sign-up is required. Swiss Steak Dinner

The Nelson United Methodist Church will be hosting their Swiss Steak Dinner at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 on September 8, 2018. Dinner is served from 4:00-6:00 Pm. The price is $11 for Adults and $5 for Children age 6-12, Children 5 and under are Free. The dinner consists of: Swiss Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Green Beans, Corn Casserole, Drinks, and Dessert. Carry-Out Is also available at the same location.

Run Wild 5K & Fishing Derby

The Shelly Company is hosting a Run Wild 5K and Fishing Derby on Sept. 9th and it’s open to the community. Run Wild 5K (Registration begins at 7:30am the race starts at 8am. It is $10 to enter and proceeds go to the ALS Association Northern Ohio Chapter. Participants receive a 5K tshirt while supplies last. Fishing Derby starts at 9:30am until 11:30am. Prizes awarded for most caught fish and largest caught fish per age groups. These events will take place at the intersection of Price and Weaver Roads, off of State Route 303, just outside of Streetsboro. Director par excellence, Damaris Pike has announced that the Hiram Community Chorus will begin rehearsals on Tuesday, September 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the Frohring Music Building. The Maple Leaf Route with local author Dan Rager
