Community Center Open

The Community Center at Mantua Center continues to be open in the old schoolhouse on Center Rd. just N. of SR82, for the usual activities, including noon potluck, every Tuesday from 9:30 until about 2:00. Special activity in this ā€œback to schoolā€ month is sewing school bags and filling them with supplies for children in refugee camps around the world.

Chicken To-Go Dinner

Portage Faith UMC invites you to their chicken drive thru dinner on August 14th from 4:30-6pm. All dinners are ā€œto-goā€ and include moist baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce and cookies. Cost is $8 per dinner. Arrive early and place your order at the side kitchen door entrance. Limited supply will be available. The church is located at 9922 St. Rt. 44 in Mantua.

Charity Yard Sales

South Street Community Charity Yard Sale in Garrettsville will be August 14th & 15th. Most families will be supporting their favorite charity by donating all or a portion of their yard sale proceeds. Garage & Bake Sale

Freedom in Christ Fellowship garage & bake sale will be August 15th from 9 am-5pm. The church is located at 3499 St. Rt. 59 in Ravenna (Blackhorse, next to Cash Land). Money raised will go to fund the free festival in October.

Free Tailgate Fest

Warren Amateur Radio Association is holding a Free Tailgate Fest, August 16th. This is in place of our annual Hamfest. It will be held at Mosquito Lake Park, 1439 St. Rt. 305 in Champion by the boat marina. Set up will be at 7am, bring your own tables. Food will be for sale at the WARA table. It runs from 8-2. There will be a Chinese auction, raffles, and fellowship.

Stuff The Bus

The American Legion Post 193 of Mantua and the Legion Auxiliary Unit 193 will be stuffing the bus with school supplies on Aug 16th from 5-7pm during Community Days at the Crestwood Football Stadium. They will also be collecting food and paper products for the 4-Cā€™s.

Mantua Historical Society Meeting

The Mantua Historical Society will hold itsā€™ monthly meeting on Monday, August 17th at 7:00 p.m. We will again meet in the Mantua Center Town Hall at the intersection of Route #82 and Mantua Center Road; there will be a discussion of our participation in the Mantua Potato Festival. Everyone is welcome; we would be glad to explain to anyone the details and importance of this organization to our area. Light refreshments will be served.

Tree City Carvers Meeting

Tree City Carvers monthly meeting will be Aug 18th at the shelter house at Fred Fuller Park on Middlebury Rd. in Kent. The meeting starts at 7:30 and is free and open to the public. At this monthā€™s meeting we will have a guest speaker whose name is Christine Petersilge. She is a 24 year old, multi-media artist who focuses on mostly on printmaking, ceramics, and fiber arts. Christine has a BFA in printmaking from OU and is a resident of Kent. 100 Women Meeting

Dog Days of Summer

The Madonio Family Animal Welfare Trust (MFAWT) is holding their inaugural Dog Days of Summer event on Aug 22nd from 12pm ā€“ 6pm at the Hometown Plaza in downtown Kent. It will include a dog parade, live music, food vendors, animal rescue groups, a beer truck, face painting and more. Water and doggy bags will be available to keep the dogs cool and the park clean. Annual Chicken BBQ

Mantua Potato Stomp Race and Fun Run

The 37th Annual Potato Stomp race will take place on Sept 12. There is a one mile Fun Run that begins at 8:30am and the 3.5 mile and 9 mile races begin at 9am.
