Goodell Family Farms will be serving its traditional pancake breakfasts the first three Sundays of March from 8:30 am – 2 pm at the Shalersville Town Hall on the corner of SRS 44 & 303. Spaghetti & Meatball Dinner

Spaghetti & meatball dinner will be held on March 10 from 4 to 6 pm at the Western Reserve Masonic Lodge on Rt. 88 in West Farmington. Salad, bread, pie, coffee and juice. Cost is $7.00 for Adults; Ages 5-12 $4.50. Under 5 is free. Carry-outs are available for $7.50.

Swiss Steak Dinner

The Nelson United Methodist Church will be hosting their Swiss Steak Dinner at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle, Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 on March 10, 2018. Dinner is served from 4:00-6:Pm. The price is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 6-12, Children 5 and under are Free. The dinner consists of: Swiss Steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn casserole, drinks, and dessert. Carry-out is also available at the same location.

RFC Garden Work Bee

On March 10th and 24th , 9am- noon at the Renaissance Family Center in Windham — GARDEN WORK BEE. Join Portage County Master Gardener Volunteers as they haul compost, create infiltration basins for fruit trees, and construct picnic tables. Pancakes at the Grange

Hambden Grange #2482 is serving an AYCE Pancake Breakfast with maple syrup, corn fritters, fruit, sausage, juice, cocoa and coffee, Sunday, March 11 & 18 from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. The Grange is located at 9778 Old State Road, Chardon. The cost is $7 for Adults and $3 for Children 10 and under.

Newton Falls Kindergarten Registration Dates
March 12 – 16
Registration for children entering the Newton Falls Exempted Village School District for the 2018-2019 school year will be held Monday, March 12 through Friday, March 16, 2018 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. & 12:00-2:30 p.m. daily. You do NOT need an appointment, but please only come during these times. It is not necessary to bring your child at this time. To be eligible for kindergarten, your child must be 5 years of age by August 1, 2018. If you have any questions, you may contact the school Administrative Assistant, Mrs. Dee Howard, at 330-872-5225 (ext. 2301).

Historical Society To Meet
March 13
The Freedom Township Historical Society will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, March 13 at 1 PM at the Freedom Community Center, Rt 700. This will be a business meeting with refreshments provided. We will be planning our spring/summer programs, finalizing fund raising projects, and discussing our plans for rehabbing our one room schoolhouse in Drakesburg. St Patrick’s Day Party
March 14
The seniors at the Portage County Senior Center located in Ravenna will be celebrating their “Inner Irishman” when they hold their St. Patrick’s Day party on Wednesday, March 14th. A meal of Corned Beef, cabbage, potatoes, and carrots will be served. Donations are welcome to help offset the costs and sign-up is required in order that we can prepare properly. We’ll be holding a special edition of Bingo at 10a.m. followed by the meal at 11:30. There will be plenty of interactive music and fun for all. A Sweet Treat from the Trees

Discover the secrets of pure Geauga Gold…maple syrup! We’ll enjoy lunch in the lodge at 11:30 a.m., then take a hands-on look at the sugarbush and sugar house to learn about the maple sugaring process. Some portions of this program will not be wheelchair accessible.

Spaghetti Dinner
March 16
On March 16, the Kiwanis of the Western Reserve is having a spaghetti dinner featuring their famous homemade sauces, meatless marinara, and sauce with meat. The dinner includes all-you-can-eat spaghetti for $7, salad and dessert, with kids 8 and under FREE. There are gluten free pasta and take out options. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well as some other items. Serving will begin at 4:30 and concludes at 7:00. This event will be held at the Hiram Christian Church and will be co-sponsored by the Mantua Center Church for the benefit of Weekend Meals for Crestwood School District.

St. Patrick’s Day At The Eagles
March 17
Garrettsville Eagles Club will be open at 9:00 AM to the public on St Patrick’s Day. We will have
Corned Beef and Cabbage dinners, Corned Beef Sandwiches, and Reuben Sandwiches for sale. The sandwiches will come with french fries and a pickle. The dinner will have red skin potatoes, cabbage and corned beef.

Dinner and Concert

Ravenna Chapter #46 Order of Eastern Star, 4785 Washington Ave in Ravenna is hosting a Dinner and Concert on March 17. Dinner begins at 6 pm and will be catered by Blasiole’s Restaurant from Streetsboro. The concert, featuring MajesticVoice Chorus begins at 7 pm. Tickets are advance sale only — $20.00 per person. Exploring Forests
March 19
This is event, on March 19 from 1-4 pm, is for those who want to learn how to assess and improve the condition of a woodlot. Observing a woodlot during the dormant season often provides a unique perspective that is helpful in planning maintenance or timber management strategies. Mark Wilthew, consulting forester with Providence Forestry, LLC, will be spending the afternoon helping participants learn some key elements of managing a woodlot.Learning to identify the trees in a woodlot is a key step in any management plan, so a good portion of our time will be spent learning the basics of winter tree ID. Easter Celebration
March 21
The seniors at the Portage County Senior Center in Ravenna are celebrating the Easter season on Wednesday, March 21st. A special edition of bingo will be held at 10 a.m., followed by a luncheon at 11:30. Ham will be provided and members are asked to either bring in a dish to pass or submit a donation of $3 to help us prepare accordingly. In addition there will be a fun and interactive program following the meal entitled “Memory Box – School Days”. The program will start promptly at 12:30. Sign-ups are required for both the luncheon and the program and can be done by calling 330-297-3456 or stopping in at the center located in at 705 Oakwood St. (Ground Floor) in Ravenna.

Growing Shiitake Mushrooms
March 21
OSU Extension Portage County will be hosting a shiitake mushroom growing workshop, March 21st, 5:30-7:00pm. During this workshop, participants will learn the basics of growing shiitake mushrooms at home– including the best species of trees to use, log preparation, types of spawn, and inoculation. After a short classroom discussion, participants will drill and inoculate an oak log to take home. Participants are encouraged to bring a cordless drill and a 5/16” diameter bit if they have it, though several will be available to share. The workshop is $25 and space is limited. Pollinator Workshop

Spring is a very busy time of year for beekeepers and pollinator specialists. OSU Extension, Portage County Beekeepers, Portage County Master Gardeners, and the Cleveland Museum of Natural History are teaming up on March 31st, 9:30am- 12pm with the Portage SWCD to provide an opportunity for workshop participants to hear from field professionals to learn more about the importance of bees and some of the challenges pollinators are currently facing. Please join us to learn more about some of the pollinator work that keeps our field experts so busy this time of year! March In, Prune Out

This will be a hands-on, get yourself dirty, workshop! We will prune peach and apple trees, and small fruits like blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, and grapes on March 31st, 9am- noon. Earth Day Celebration

Celebrate Earth Day in Hiram
Everyone is invited to celebrate spring and attend the Earth Day activities on Saturday, April 21st from 10 am until 2 pm. The events will include the dedication of a new Village park, as well as a new, paved walking trail. The family-friendly festivities will include games, music, and more, so mark your calendars.
