Hiram Community Trust: Grant Applications

Due by April 4 

Hiram Community Trust provides grant funds for projects that promote a spirit of cooperation among Hiram Village, Hiram Township, Hiram College, and James A. Garfield and Crestwood Local Schools. The purpose of these funds is to enrich life in the Hiram community by funding creative proposals for projects to support community enrichment. Grant applications are due no later than April 4. American Legion Breakfast

Breakfast every Monday at the American Legion Post #674.  Time: 7:30 to 11:00 a.m.  Place 9130 Center Street in Windham.  Carry out available.  Call 326-3188.

JAG Kindergarten Registration

March 24-26

Please call the James A. Garfield Elementary school to set up an appointment to register your child for Kindergarten.  The age requirement for the JAG School district is 5 years of age by Sept 30, 2015.  Registration and full screenings will take place on March 24, March 25 and March 26, 2015 at the Elementary School, these are the ONLY times we will do complete screenings.  Class lists will be finalized in May, so it is imperative that we have your child registered!   Please call the Elementary School office at 330-527-2184 for an appointment.  It is required that you bring in your child for this appointment.

Newton Falls Kindergarten Registration

February-March

Registration for children entering the Newton Falls School System for the 2013-2014 school year was held in February and the beginning of March.  If you have not yet registered your child for next year’s kindergarten, it is important that you do so immediately as there is a mandated screening time which will take place at the end of April. You do NOT need an appointment, but please only come during these times:  8:30-11:30 or 12:30-2:30.  It is not necessary to bring your child at this time.  To qualify for kindergarten, child must be 5 by August 1, 2013.  If you have any questions, you may contact the school secretary, Mrs. Howard, at 330-872-5225 (ext. 2301).

Comfort Food Cook-Off

Second Annual Comfort Food Cook-Off will be Feb 7th from 5-7 pm at Portage Faith UMC 9922 State Route 44, Mantua.  Our competitive cooks will be preparing favorite foods that bring comfort during a typical February winter.  Prizes are awarded based on your votes.  Tickets for a sample-sized serving will be on sale for $1.00 each.  A fistful of tickets will bring a feast full of flavor!   Questions or additional information, call the church office at 330-274-8987 or email at pfumcoffice@gmail.com. Driveway entrance is at the bottom of the hill, about a mile north of the I-80  exit.

Youth Baseball/Softball Signups

NFYBSL – youth baseball/softball signups boys and girls ages 5-14 will be February 7 & 14 from 10:00 am- 2:00 pm (Sat.) and February 11 – 5:00-8:00 pm (Wed.) at the Newton Falls Community Center, 52 East Quarry. All new players must bring a *copy* of birth certificate.

Garrettsville Youth Softball Signups

Garrettsville Youth Softball board will be holding player signups for all girls ages 5-14, February  7th from 9am-noon, 14th from 9am-noon @ the Village Hall. Please bring contact info and copy of birth certificates. Cost is $60 per player or $100 per family, max.

All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti

Knights of Columbus Council #3350 is having an all-you-can- eat spaghetti dinner on Feb 8th at Saint Mary’s social hall, 120 Maple Dr. Newton Falls, from 12-3pm. Dinner includes: Spaghetti, with or without meatballs, Italian bread, salad, coffee or punch, and dessert. Cost is $8.00 for adults, $3.00 for children age 6-11 and free for children 5 & under. Carryouts available.

All-You-Can-Eat Dinner

Enjoy an all-you-can-eat dinner of homemade soups, salads and breads for $6.00 at the Mantua Center Civic Center, 4118 St. Rt. 82 on Feb 15th at 5:30pm.  The dinner will include an auction of hand crafted items made by the youth of CYF United (Christian Youth Fellowship).  Funds benefit the CYF summer mission trip to Hazard, KY where the youth will be repairing homes.

The JAG Sports Boosters are holding a raffle for Cleveland Cavalier merchandise.  First prize is a pair of  Lebron James game worn shoes; 2nd prize a Shawn Marion signed basketball and 3rd prise is a Love Jersey. Christ Episcopal Craft Show

Mark your calendar for the Christ Episcopal Craft Show, March 7th from 10-4 located at 2627 Atlantic St. NE, Warren, Oh 44483.  Admission is $2.00 and parking is FREE.  There are over 50 crafters/vendors to showcase their unique items and products.   A Chinese Auction will be held with baskets full of goodies to be given away.  Delicious hot food will also be available.  There is sure to be something for everyone.  Come out and join us for an enjoyable day of crafts, shopping and fun.  Invite all your family and friends!  Proceeds for the craft show go toward our outreach ministries at the church.

BioBuddies: Chicken School at Hiram College

Get your feathers on! Chicken School is back at Hiram College. Eggs Alive is the theme for this discovery program as preschool children (ages 3-5) explore chickens, eggs and observe the life inside as they incubate and hatch chicks. BioBuddies provides hands-on, developmentally appropriate educational experiences for early learners and are specially designed to develop the cognitive, social, creative and physical skills of early learners.
