Hiram Community Trust: Grant Applications

Due by April 4 

Hiram Community Trust provides grant funds for projects that promote a spirit of cooperation among Hiram Village, Hiram Township, Hiram College, and James A. Garfield and Crestwood Local Schools. The purpose of these funds is to enrich life in the Hiram community by funding creative proposals for projects to support community enrichment. Grant applications are due no later than April 4. NGCC Food Donations

State Farm Agent, Shannan Jursa’s office now has a bin for drops offs to support the Nelson Garrettsville Community Cupboard.   We will donate $10 to the Community Cupboard for every 10# of food donated.   For now, we plan to have the bin in our office through March.  Office located at 8454 Windham St., Garrettsville, OH 44231

Water Dog Swim Lessons

Begin March 29

Need swim lessons? Homemade Kolache

St. Mary and St. Joseph’s Ladies Guild of Newton Falls will be baking homemade Kolache for the Easter holiday and you may purchase this taste of Eastern Europe at the low cost of $10 each. Pancake Breakfasts

The Geauga County Historical Society will hold its annual Pancake Breakfasts on the five Sundays of March 2015, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Meals served in the Lennah Bond Activities Center on the grounds of Century Village Museum.  All-you-can-eat pancakes served with maple syrup produced from our own sugar bush.   Adults $7.00, children 5-12 $5.00, children 4 and under free.

The Garrettsville Eagles are holding Friday fish fry throughout Lent. Dinners are a choice of fish, shrimp, chicken or a fish/shrimp combo. Soup Supper

St. Ambrose Church CCD and DSR students will be performing “In Shadows” followed by a soup and bread supper on March 13th at 7pm. Admission is free, donations accepted.

Swiss Steak Dinner

The Nelson UMC will be hosting their Swiss Steak Dinner on March 14th at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle. Dinner is served from 4-6:30pm, cost is $9 for adults and $6 for kids 6 years and older. Dinner includes Swiss steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, corn casserole, coleslaw, rolls, dessert and beverage. Carry out is available.

Chili Cook-Off

Winter Festival of Praise

The First Church of God, 426 West Broad St., Newton Falls, winter festival of praise will be March 14th at 6pm. The singers are from the local church and will be performing favorite melodies from the past and present. There will be a variety of desserts in the Family Activity Center following the concert. A love offering will be used for the music department to enhance our stage and sound equipment.

Parkman Pancake & Sausage Breakfast

BioBuddies: Chicken School at Hiram College

Get your feathers on! Chicken School is back at Hiram College. Eggs Alive is the theme for this discovery program as preschool children (ages 3-5) explore chickens, eggs and observe the life inside as they incubate and hatch chicks. BioBuddies provides hands-on, developmentally appropriate educational experiences for early learners and are specially designed to develop the cognitive, social, creative and physical skills of early learners. JAG Kindergarten Registration

Please call the James A. Garfield Elementary school to set up an appointment to register your child for Kindergarten.  The age requirement for the JAG School district is 5 years of age by Sept 30, 2015.  Registration and full screenings will take place on March 24, March 25 and March 26, 2015 at the Elementary School, these are the ONLY times we will do complete screenings.  Class lists will be finalized in May, so it is imperative that we have your child registered!   Please call the Elementary School office at 330-527-2184 for an appointment.  It is required that you bring in your child for this appointment.

Night at the Races

The JAG All Sports Boosters are hosting a Night at the Races on 3/28 at the Elks Club in Ravenna. Tickets are $30 apiece or $50 a couple. Dinner and 2 drinks are included. There will be side boards, over 100 raffle items and a cash bar in addition to  the races. Horses are available for $20.00. Burton American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #459 presents their Annual Oink & Squeal Chinese auction and turkey raffle at the Burton American Legion Hall, 14052 Goodwin St., Burton, OH will be March 28th. Doors open at 5pm with the raffle beginning at 7pm. 1st place prize is $200, 2nd prize is $150 and 3rd prize is $75, along with 15 hams being given away. Raffle tickets are $2 each, Chinese auction tickets are 8 for $1. Admission is a non-perishable food, bath, personal hygiene item or cash donation to a local food bank. Young at Heart  Trip
