Holy Cross Anglican Church, 1046 Lake Street in Kent will be having their Maundy Thursday Service on April 17th. There will be a pot luck dinner at 6pm followed by the service with communion and stripping of the altar.

 

Good Friday Service

Holy Cross Anglican Church, 1046 Lake Street in Kent will be having their Good Friday Service at 7pm. The Stations of the Cross in the sanctuary followed by lessons and prayers, Veneration of the cross concluded by Mass of the Presanctified.

Fish Fry

Fried fish, French fries, coleslaw and beverages will be served from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. at the Parkman Community House (16295 Main Market/St. Rt. 422 – 1/4 mile east of St. Rt. 528 in Parkman).  Adult dinners are $9.00 (Dine-in or take-out).  Desserts will be available for an additional donation.  (An alternate kid-friendly dinner will also be available for $5.00 each.)  Sponsored alternately by Parkman Boy Scout Troop 76, Cub Scout Troop 4076, and Huskies’ Touchdown Club.  Please come out and enjoy a good meal and support our sponsors.

JAG Pancake Breakfast

James A. Garfield Student Council will be sponsoring an all you can eat Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, April 19 from 8am-noon at Garfield Elementary School.  Pancakes will be served with sausage, juice, milk or coffee and pure maple syrup donated by Mark Apple. Tickets will be sold at the door and are $6 for adults and $3 for children 10 and under.  All proceeds will be donated to #GarrettsvilleStrong.

Nelson Twp. Easter Egg Hunt

The Nelson Township Easter Egg Hunt will be held April 19th at Pixley Park at 2pm. Ages 3-11 welcome. If rain should occur, the hunt will be moved to the Community House. The Easter Bunny will also be making an appearance, so bring your camera!

Volunteers Needed

April 19

Volunteers needed for a shoreline and roadside litter clean up at West Branch State Park on April 19th to honor and celebrate Earth Day. Groups and individuals are asked to arrive at 9am at the Parks West Boat Ramp located on Rock Spring Road (reminder the bridge on Rock Spring Road is under construction). Volunteers will be assigned to an area, should dress for the weather and bring work gloves. The three hour cleanup will conclude at noon at the boat ramps shelter house with a hot dog cookout and potluck style lunch. For more information contact the Park Office 330-654-4989.

 

Bluegrass Night

Join us at Bluegrass Junction for a night of great bluegrass music! The show will be held from 7 to 11pm on April 19th at the Shalersville Town Hall, located on S.R. 44 at S.R. 303.  Doors open at 6 p.m. The event will feature three bands Caney Creek, Idletymes, and Lloyd Blevins and Ramblin’ Mountain. “From History to Mystery”

Join the Friends of the Hiram College Library for a talk on “From History to Mystery” by Sam Thomas, author of The Midwife’s Tale and The Harlot’s Tale. Thomas will discuss how he puts his training as a historian of 17th-century England to use in his exciting novels. The program will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, in the Pritchard Room of the Hiram College Library.

Indoor Yard Sale will be held on April 26th from 9am to 4pm at Christian Life Center’s new location; 1972 East Summit Road Kent at the corner of St Rt 261 and Summit Road. Vendors are needed. Rental spaces are available for $20.00 per space. Spaces size 8×8 feet. All vendors must provide own tables and chairs. Stuffed Pork Chop Dinner

April 26

On April 26th there will be a stuffed pork chop dinner at the Braceville UMC off of St. Rt. 82 in the center of Braceville. The dinner begins at 4pm and we will serve until 6:30, unless we run out. Dinner will include mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, bread, coffee, tea or punch. The cost is $9.00 for adults and $3.50 for children. Takeouts are available.

 

Spring Rummage Sale

The Altar & Rosary Society of St. Ambrose Church, located at 10692 Freedom St. in Garrettsville, is hosting their annual Spring Rummage Sale and Bake Sale on April 25th from 9-5 and April 26th from 9-1. Saturday is bag day. The rummage sale will take place in the church hall.

 

Newton Falls Kiwanis Club’s Annual Steak Dinner

The Newton Falls Kiwanis Club will hold their annual Steak Cookout on April 26th from 4 to 7pm at the Newton Falls Community Center on Quarry Street.The meal includes a 14-ounce sirloin steak, on the grill, cooked as you wish, salad, potato, drink, and dessert, all for $15.00. Tickets can be purchased in advance from any NF Kiwanis member or by calling Bob at 330-872-3854. There will also be a 50/50 drawing. Kiwanis meets every Tuesday (except the last Tuesday of the month) at 6:30 pm at The Covered Bridge Inn Restaurant. We welcome new members.

 

Earth Day at Hiram: Roots of Resilience, Routes to Change

Celebrate the Earth and empower yourself to be sustainable. Three speakers will present on a diversity of topics, including climate change, conservation, home energy efficiency and grassroots activism, demonstrating the sometimes subtle and unseen links between environmental issues and everyday activities. Community members are encouraged to bring their children and participate in a variety of child-friendly activities, including face-painting, nature games and crafts. Pasta 4 Paws Dinner

Rose’s Rescue will be holding their second annual Pasta 4 Paws pasta dinner and Chinese auction on April 26th from 2pm-7pm. Raffle drawings will begin promptly at 7:00pm. Winner need not be present.  Great food and chances for some great gifts.  Kindle Fire basket, Sealy Mattress set, Basket of Cheer, and a Lottery Tree just to name a few of the over 100 items that will be raffled off that day. Knee Deep in Bluebells

One of the most unbelievable and spectacular sights in all of Ohio is the riot of wildflowers at the Poland Forest, near Youngstown. Here, in a setting among some of the largest trees in the state, thousands upon thousands of wild bluebells and other spring wildflowers bloom. The forest floor is literally awash with a carpet of bluebells, dabs of red and white trilliums and a haze of marsh marigolds; the artistry of nature in all its glory. The hike begins at 4:00pm. Shalersville School Reunion Reservations

On May 3rd The Shalersville School Reunion will be held in the Shalersville Town Hall. Following our exploration of the forest, we will retire to the nearby Candlelight Winery for a little sip of the grape. Windham Fire Memorial Car Wash/ Bake Sale / Silent Auction

We are raising funds to add two names  to our Memorial Stone — Ernie Bradley and Lenny Polichena.   May 3rd at 10:30 -1pm. The Windham Fire cadets will be doing a car wash: $6 for cars  $8 for trucks. Windham Fire Sirens  Auxiliary will be holding the Bake sale and silent auction. Secret Garden: Moore, Draime Estate Gardens

This beautiful garden in Howland is operated by Kent State University and is closed to the public. A wide variety of plants are found in the well planned perennial garden, the formal English and Italian gardens, conifer collection, and walled vegetable and water gardens. The grounds  also contain a unique sculpture collection by Caroline Stacey and others. Directions will be provided upon registration. Newton Falls Plant Exchange- It’s Spring in the Falls!

Join us on May 10th from 9 AM until Noon at Newton Falls Park to meet with other gardeners and to trade plants.  Just bring at least 6 plants to trade (more are always welcome).  Fancy pots are not required; any old box or bag will do.  In addition to the plants, a band will provide live music so bring a lawn chair and relax. The Perennial Gardeners of Chesterland Plant Sale

The Perennial Gardeners’ Annual Plant Sale is the day before Mother’s Day from 8am-2pm at the Town Hall in Chesterland, 12701 Chillicothe Rd., just North of Mayfield Rd.  How perfect! Pick up a plant for Mother’s Day while making your own selections.  Expect common favorites and the unusual, many cared for in the home gardens of club members.  Plants galore, including perennials, annuals, shrubs, herbs and lush hanging baskets.  The proceeds of this event sustain ongoing community projects.  The Perennial Gardeners meet at 7 P.M. at West Geauga Middle School, the fourth Wednesday of the month.  Membership is open to those living in the West Geauga Local School District.  For information call Linda at 440-338-8644.

 

Spaghetti Dinner

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser for Paxton will be May 10th at Happy Day School, 2500 Brady Lake Rd in Ravenna, from 3-7 pm. This dinner will help raise money for a handicap-accessible van and other medical needs. Dinner includes spaghetti and meatballs, tossed salad, rolls, dessert and drink. Cost is $10 per person. The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be holding signups for football and cheerleading on May 10th and 24th  at the Community center stone pavilion. The signups will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The signups are for children 6 yrs. old to 12 yrs. old as of July 31st. Please bring a copy of child’s birth certificate for the league. T-Ball

Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring an instructional T-ball program for boys and girls ages 4 and 6; child must be at least 4 years old before May 31st. The fundamentals of basic baseball / softball are taught as children learn better throwing, catching and batting techniques using tennis balls and batting tees. Classes will be held on Saturdays May 31st to June 28th from 10-11:15am. at Havre Woods Park in Ravenna.  Registration fee for City Taxpayers (live or work in the Ravenna City) is $32.00 or Non-City Taxpayers is $40.00.

 

5th Annual Golf Outing

Little Tigers 5th Annual Golf Outing

The Newton Falls Little Tigers will be holding their 5th annual golf outing at the Olde Dutch golf course in Lake Milton on June 7th. The 4-man scramble starts with an  8 a.m. shotgun with registration starting 7:00. The 4-man scramble costs $70.00 per person and will include coffee/ doughnuts, lunch provided by SUBWAY, steak dinner, and beverages. There will also be prizes on every hole and side games. Hambden Grange Concerts

The Huntsburg Grange has bandstand concerts set for June 21 with Boys Are Back, and July 19 with Fort Huntsburg Band.  Concerts start at 6 PM, rain or shine.  If it rains, concerts are held on the town hall stage.   Bring your lawn chair.  Refreshments will be available. Annual Spelling Bee

The annual spelling bee, sponsored by Trumbull County Retired Teachers, will be held on July 10, at 1 p.m. at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. Chaney High School Reunion

The Chaney High School Class of 1974 40th Class Reunion scheduled for the third weekend of July.  Please save the date and spread the word. The celebration starts on July 18th and the CHS Class of 1974 Invites All Chaney 70’s Graduates to “Come As You Were, Friday Night Fever Party”  at Kuzmans  Lounge.  Cost $5.00 per person. Geauga West Friends of the Library Now Accepting Donations for the Annual Summer Book Sale

The spring book sale sponsored by the Geauga West Friends of the Library was a great success. Thanks to everyone for their support – for donations, for volunteers, and for everyone who came to purchase books and other items. The Friends are now accepting donations for their annual summer book sale which will take place July 30 – August 2. Bring gently used or new children’s and adult books, collectibles, comic books, CDs, DVDs, audio books on CD, puzzles and games for adults and children, sheet music, coffee table books, and prints to the Geauga West Library during regular library hours.  No textbooks or encyclopedias, please.  A receipt for your donation is available. Funds raised from the book sale support adult and children’s programming at the Geauga West Library.  The Geauga West Library is located at 13455 Chillicothe Road in Chesterland, next to West Geauga High School.  The phone number is 440-729-4250.
