Join Us For A Sentimental Journey
The Mantua Restoration Society, Inc., Shalersville Historical Society, and the Mantua Historical Society present “A Sentimental Journey”, Saturday, November 7, 2015 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on the grounds of Mantua Center School, 11741 Mantua Center Road.
A living history display of 1940’s military vehicles, a few tents of the period set up, and some WWII re-enactors displaying items from the era will be included in the day’s events. A Tribute to Veterans at 1:00 pm will be presented by American Legion Post #193 to be held at the Mantua Center Veterans Memorial.
From 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm the “The Garretttones” a 20 piece swing band will be performing 1940’s era big band dance music at the Mantua Center school annex.Today’s USO will be there accepting donations for our present day military families.Snacks and refreshments will be provided.Tickets are $10.00 each. No charge for veterans.

Volunteers Needed
Coleman Adult Day Services looking for volunteers to share their time and talents with Seniors. Only once a month or more if you could come to our center in Ravenna Mon-Fri at 11am or 1pm to play a game with them or do a craft. Community Center Open
Tuesdays
Every Tuesday except Election Day, the community center will be open from 9:30 till 2:00 or 3:00, in the cafeteria wing of the Mantua Center School on Center Road just north of SR82. There is no charge and all are welcome. Free coffee’s ready by 9:30, when the water color painting group gathers. There’s always a jigsaw puzzle to work on, a table of reading material for free exchange, and a sewing project, with sewing machines available for use. Or just come to talk with friends or make some new ones. Potluck lunch at noon; bring something to share. Due to low attendance, there will be no more evening meals this fall. Once the morning group has dispersed, the building will be closed for the day.

Ravenna Recreation roller skating party will be Oct 15th from 6:30-8:30pm at the Roller Hutt Skate Center, 10268 Hewins Rd., Garrettsville. Overall Health Fair

Family & Community Services will be holding a free health fair on Oct. 16th from noon – 4 pm at the King-Kennedy Community Center in Ravenna. This will be an overall health fair with Blood pressure checks by University Hospital, dental health clinics, and health awareness speakers that will be present.

Fall Festival

The hospitable folks at the Historic Johnson Home, 6203 Pioneer Trail, Hiram, OH 44234 are inviting everyone—families, listen up—to a Fall Festival on Friday, October 16 with activities for all ages and fun for everyone. The hours are from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. and the things to do include a pumpkin toss (no pies for these babies), applesauce-making, a scavenger hunt, even an eruption of a volcano! Yellowstone has nothing on us! Anyone at loose ends on NEOEA Day, looking for something “outside the box” should check this out. While you’re there, take a look at one of the founding locations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a historical reconstruction/restoration/replication of a Western Reserve home of the mid 1800’s.

Fall Rummage and Bake Sale at Hiram Rapids Church, 6337 Winchell Rd will be October 16th from 9-5. Refreshments and 50/50 raffle. Proceeds help maintain this historic site.

Spaghetti Dinner

All you can eat indoors only spaghetti and meatball dinner will be Oct 7th from 4-6pm at the Western Reserve Masonic Lodge 507, 216 E. Main St., West Farmington, OH. Dinner will include spaghetti and meatballs, salad, bread, pie, coffee and lemonade. Donation is $7 for adults, $4.50 ages 5-12, under 5 free.

Family Fall Festival

Family fall festival and chili cook off will be October 17th from 3-6pm. Admission=1 canned good per person for the Storehouse Food. The Nelson UMC will be hosting their Swiss steak dinner at the Nelson Community House on Nelson Circle in Garrettsville on Oct 17th from 4-6:30pm. The cost is $10 for adults, $6 for kids 6-12 and kids under 5 free. Dinner consists of Swiss Steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn casserole, drinks and dessert. Lake Milton Presbyterian Church, 942 Grandview Rd. will be hosting the 13th annual apple butter festival on Oct 17th. This event will take place all day. Free Concert

Celebrate Freedom, a free concert honoring God, America, Veterans and First Responders will take place at the Geauga County Fair Grounds in Burton, Ohio on October 18th from 4-6pm. Nationally known singer/song writer Todd Allen Herendeen will perform Gospel and Patriotic music including his signature song, “My Name Is America”. Todd and his crew will erect a 500 seat, red, white and blue tent on the Midway of the Geauga County Fair Grounds. All ages are invited and asked to bring a lawn chair. Admission and parking is free. Hiram Farm Presentation

On October 20th at 7 pm the Garrettsville United Methodist Women will welcome David Lundeen, Interim Ex. Director for Hiram Farm. The Hiram Farm is an agricultural community for adults on the autism spectrum. It operates a 1/2 acre garden, two greenhouses, and raises a variety of fowl and animals. Please join us at the church for his eye-opening talk of a successful and meaningful work program and operation in our backyard. This event is free and open to the public.

Tree City Carvers Meeting

Monthly meeting of the Tree City Carvers will be Oct 20th at 7:30pm at Fred Fuller Park, Middlebury Rd. in Kent. There will be a speaker for this month’s meeting. Michael Vermeersch will give a power point presentation about his boat building techniques. Michael has a background in mechanical and aerospace engineering and has been interested in canoeing and sailing for many years. He has built 2 redwood strip canoes, 3 kayaks, and a 19 ft. sail boat. Home Cooked Supper

Home-cooked supper at Pricetown Church; 4640 Prichard- Ohltown Rd., Newton Falls will be Oct 21st from 5-6:30pm. Dinner will feature super dogs with all the fixings, white chicken and regular meat chili, cornbread, salad, dessert and beverage. The cost is $7 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. Youth Shoot (Intro to Shotgun)

The Streetsboro Sportsman Association is hosting a free youth introduction to Shotgun course on October 24th at 10.The club is located at 11280 Bloom Rd., Nelson Township 44231. The attendees will receive instruction in the safe handling of firearms followed by the opportunity to shoot. The course will be taught by NRA instructors. Shooters are required to have a responsible adult present at the range. Lunch is provided. Space is limited. Mantua Center free clothing giveaway will be Oct 24th from 9-noon in the old Mantua Center School building. You will enter the back side of the building, go down the stairs, turn right into hallway. There will be signs to lead you to the correct place. Plenty of clothing will be available in all sizes and both genders.

Chance Auction at Bristol Elementary

The Bristol Elementary sixth grade class will be holding its annual Chance Auction on Nov.13 in the elementary cafeteria. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. and winners will be drawn at 7:00 p.m. Admission is $3.00 and includes 10 free regular auction tickets. All proceeds benefit the sixth grades’ annual spring trip to Washington, D.C. For more information contact the Bristol Elementary School at 330-889-2700. GARRETTSVILLE STRONG PAST, PRESENT & FUTURE book may be purchased at The Villager Emporium or the Village Bookstore, both on Main Street in Garrettsville.
The cost for each book is $25. If you would like the book mailed to you, please include an extra $3.50 per book. You can send your order to: Garrettsville Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 1, Garrettsville, OH 44231. All checks are made payable to Garrettsville Area Chamber of Commerce.
All proceeds from this book will be donated to the Garrettsville Strong Fund.
