Township Park Hosts Public Meeting

831

Hiram Twp. – When Hiram Township formed the Community Evaluations and Accomplishments Committee (CEAC) two years ago, the purpose of the group was to implement key initiatives in the Comprehensive Plan, which was developed to help shape future development of Hiram Township and Village.

During the past year, the committee worked on a map to identify existing trails within the township, and to identify potential connector trails, as well. The entity also applied for grants to help develop the property and received donations from the Hiram Beautification Committee and zoning code violation fees to be used as well.

Currently, the three-acre park features a scenic wooded trail that leads past a pond and wetland area. Future plans include the addition of a shelter or pavilion, as well as connector trails to nearby sites of interest. A portable restroom will be added to encourage use of the park.

Tim Kasper from the CEAC wants to encourage people not only to use the existing park, but to share their ideas on the type of amenities and activities they’d like to enjoy there in the future. To that end, he’s inviting interested individuals and families out to the park property on Tuesday, April 26th at 6 pm.

That evening, the CEAC will hold an informational meeting at the Township’s property (6352 State Route 82) to discuss future development of the park, as well as a special Bio Blitz event, which will be held on May 21st. Hiram Township and Village residents are encouraged to attend to find out more; refreshments will be served.

On a related note, trustees have also been considering the possibility of eventually relocating the historic Township Hall from its current location within Hiram Village to the new park property on State Route 82 in the Township. Trustees have agreed that township residents would not be asked to bear the burden of a project of this scope; it would only occur with the procurement of grant funding.
