Start of sugaring season in Pancake Town USA

676

Burton – Even though winter has been reluctant to arrive, plans are underway to begin making pure Geauga County maple syrup in Burton Village.  The Burton Chamber Of Commerce will hold the 4th Tree Tapping Ceremony Saturday February 11, from 10 to 4.  It’s a great time for the entire family to see how pure maple syrup is made.

This family friendly event is a hands on experience.  After the Chamber does the official tapping of the first tree, anyone can grab a spile, a bucket and drill into a maple tree.

Then the tapper can have his name on the tree to show that he helped.

Inside the Log Cabin there will be candy-making demonstrations and if the sap begins to run, there may be first-run-of-the-season syrup made.   A cozy fire in the cabin’s rustic fireplace will be warming guests as they can relax in a rocking chair.

Burton Village is known worldwide as Pancake Town USA.

March 4, 11, 18,and 25, a stack of pancakes as high as the town water tower will be served to hungry visitors.  Those pancakes will be covered with pure Geauga County maple syrup.  But before the syrup can be enjoyed, it has to be harvested from the local maple trees.

Plan now to attend this sweet event, a Burton Village tradition.  Bring your entire family and the camera and have a great day.  For more information visit www.burtonchamberofcommerce.org or call Amy in the Log Cabin at 440-834-4204.
