Sing and Rejoice!

1077

Taken in any combination—singing because you rejoice, rejoicing because you’re singing, rejoicing to hear the singing, singing to spread the rejoicing—this is a prescription for a lighter heart  for the holiday season.  You can get a maintenance dose by attending the Hiram Community Choir concert at 7:30p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2013 in the Hiram Christian Church at the corner of St. Rtes 82, 700 and 305.  Open wide!

The concert will have three elements : women’s chorus, men’s chorus and combined chorus.  Each segment will contain varied selections, from Christmas carols to Broadway favorites.

The ladies present“Widmung” by  Robert Schumann, “Somewhere Out There”, “Climb Every Mountain”, “Sans Day Carol” and “World Peace Canon”.  Soloists include Marilyn Wasil, Gail Mikula and a quartet of Hiram college students—Danielle Kohut, Sydney Shawgo, Lydia Snyder and Sarah Weirich.  This chorus will be assisted by harpist Ellen Eckhouse, flutist Bobby Noel and the indispensible Patricia Amor at the piano.

The gentlemen make their musical mark with the “Theme from ‘New York, New York’”, “I Will Be Earth”,  “Man of La Mancha”, “White Christmas” and “Gloucestershire Carol” with, once again, the assistance of pianist Patricia Amor.

The combined chorus, a power of sound, will bring the seasonal music of “The Little Drummer Boy”, “Do You Hear What I Hear?”, “The Christmas Song(Chestnuts Roasting  On An Open Fire), with soloist Jane Moody”, the traditional English West Country song “We Wish You A Merry Christmas” as well as “And the Glory of the Lord” and the “Hallelujah!” from Handel’s “Messiah”.

These talented ensembles are directed by Damaris Peters Pike and Jose Gotera.

It’s a Wonderful Wassail…to your health!
