Portage Park District Seeks Public Input On New Properties

618

Ravenna – Portage Park District is now seeking public input to inform plans for creating two new parks on properties acquired in recent years, currently known as the ‘Tinkers Creek Greenway’ and the ‘Kent Bog Expansion’. Input from the community is being collected on the types of amenities that will be added to each location and suggestions for the park names. Tinker’s Creek Greenway is a 130-acre property purchased from the Gressard Family on the north side of Ravenna Rd., with the majority of the property in Streetsboro. It’s being referred to as a part of the Tinkers Creek Greenway, a corridor that includes high quality natural areas, parks and nature preserves. The Kent Bog Expansion is a 234-acre property purchased from Carter Lumber Company on the north side of Howe Rd., in Kent and Brimfield Township.

“We’re excited to start planning for these new parks that were acquired mostly with grant funds. Our voter-approved levy dollars closed the gap, and will fund the basic amenities to open the properties in the next few years,” said Christine Craycroft, Executive Director. “We want to create public spaces for all to enjoy while respecting the natural environment, and we’re looking forward to hearing everyone’s creative ideas”.

To participate in the planning process, the public is encouraged to attend the open house, view photos, maps and information on our website, take a survey and join us for a site visit on these properties which are not yet open to the public. Please note the follow events and contact us with questions.
