The intense workshop covered many aspects of teaching literacy techniques not only the adult reader, but children.   Attendees of the workshop learned about phonics, tutoring techniques, learning styles, and more.  After the workshop was complete, the PCLC had five new certified Laubach reading tutors to help adults, teens, and children in Portage County.  (Dr. Frank C. Laubach 1884-1970, a literacy pioneer and missionary that spread his work, created Laubach Literacy International (LLI).)   There is no fee for this training and when the 14-hour training is complete, the person becomes a certified Laubach reading tutor.

Project: LEARN, the volunteer tutor training program of the Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) Program at Maplewood Career Center in Ravenna, Ohio is in need of volunteer tutors on a regular basis.  The next 14-hour tutor workshop will be held in spring 2013.   If you are interested, please call (330) 235-0020 to sign-up to start the process to help someone read!
