Rootstown – The Portage County District Library is proud to announce that it has partnered with Northeast Ohio Medical University to bring Portage County residents – as well as students, faculty, and staff – library service using a new and innovative approach to provide popular materials delivery with a library lending machine, the first of its kind within Northeast Ohio.

The Library Box – now available for use – is located inside the NEOMED Education and Wellness (NEW) Center on the Northeast Ohio Medical University campus at 4209 State Route 44 in Rootstown. The Library Box offers all Portage County library cardholders in good standing the opportunity to check out bestsellers and recently released DVDs.

To use The Library Box, cardholders simply scan their Portage County library barcode number and enter the slot location of your item on the numeric keypad. The library’s standard loan periods apply – two weeks for books and one week for DVDs. There is a book return conveniently located next to the lending machine. In addition to the lending machine, a Library Express delivery service location is available across Route 44 at the Rootstown Middle School entryway. Library users may select materials from the catalog for delivery to this location. Library materials may be returned to a book return conveniently located near the locker boxes. For additional information or questions about using The Library Box or Library Express, call the Outreach Services Department at 1.800.500.5179 ext. 220 during office hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Library Box and its book return are accessible anytime during the NEW Center’s normal business hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Friday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding NEOMED’s observed holidays).

In addition, the public is invited for a special reception at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 in the NEW Center to officially launch library service at The Library Box. Local dignitaries, faculty and staff from both organizations will be on hand to participate in a formal demonstration of The Library Box.
