NF Cake Walk Night Before Trick or Treat

The October meeting of the Newton Falls Area Commerce Association was business as usual, opening with approval of previous minutes and the financial report.
In old business, the Association is still awaiting a price quote for the new banners so that topic will be revisited as soon as the numbers are known. The bulk of this meeting’s discussion centered on the upcoming holiday events: since Home 44444 the Holidays is not on the schedule this year, the main focus is on the tree lighting and parade that has traditionally been held the Saturday before that big event. Every year a tree is set up in Four Corners Park and decorated the weekend of Thanksgiving. Members have been looking into purchasing a blue spruce tree and simply planting it in that spot so that it may be decorated year after year rather than hauling in a different one each year and then discarding it at season’s end. This year’s parade will be Saturday, December 1st. Anyone interested in walking the parade can line up at the Andretti parking lot next to McDs at 5pm with step-off expected at 5:30pm. There is an open invitation to join in the caroling and revelry which will end at the Four Corners park for the official tree lighting. Rumor has it Santa Claus will return again for a brief appearance before he and his elves have to hunker down for the Christmas rush later in the month. Anyone interested in participating in decorating the tree this year can come down to the park the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 24th, starting at 1pm to help out.
In new business, James Tool & Die, and Mayor Lyle Waddell were welcomed as new members. Election for next year’s Association officers is postponed until the next meeting, but the nomination committee is confident in the names on the ballot they have prepared.
By way of the City Manager’s report: the Park Visioning Session held last month was “very successful” with many community members offering insight and suggestions for future park improvements; park benches that have been removed as part of the revisioning are still being offered to the families or individuals who originally donated the memorials; and the traffic signal project is nearly completed, as is the South Canal Street waterline.
*Important Note*: the Kiwanis Club Cake Walk has been rescheduled and no longer falls on the same day as Trick or Treat for this year. The Cake Walk will be Tuesday, October 30th at 7pm. (The time has not changed, just the day.) Trick or Treat remains scheduled on Halloween itself, Wednesday, October 31st from 5-6:30pm.
Other upcoming events in Newton Falls include a Cemetery Walk sponsored by the Newton Township Cemetery Association which was held on Saturday, October 13th; the Open House celebrating the new fire station across from Arby’s – the public is invited to visit Station #2 from 1-4pm on Saturday, October 20th; and Make a Difference Day will be Saturday, October 27th. Service projects and events for that day will target the City Park and riverbank areas.
The Association’s next meeting will be on Tuesday, November 13th at noon.
