Welcome to Destination Aurora. News you can use about what’s happening in beautiful Aurora, Ohio.
Did you know that The Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland has three wildlife sanctuaries in Aurora? Though privately owned, all three of these beautiful sanctuaries are open to the public.
The Aurora Sanctuary is located north of Pioneer Trail, a few hundred yards from Page Road. This sanctuary is believed to be the oldest privately held nature preserve in Ohio. The bulk of this 165 acre preserve is in a second growth beech-maple-oak-hickory forest. A trail system on the western portion of the property is approximately two miles and lends access to a large variety of habitat types. There are four ponds on the property with an active beaver lodge affecting the size and conditions of each pond.
The Novak Sanctuary is located on Townline Road about ¾ of a mile north of Route 82. Located on both sides of Townline Road, this 152 acre sanctuary features some wetlands surrounded by fields and second growth forests. Both sides feature some walking trails.
The Molnar Sanctuary is located at 850 Page Road on the west side. This 113 acre sanctuary is divided into two tracts. The northern and larger tract is almost entirely native hardwood forest. Its most noteworthy feature is a striking 8 acre pond. The southern tract is an old farm property including the foundations of farm buildings. There is also one walking trail.
