Cortland – Don A. DeWitt, of Cortland, Ohio, author of U.S. Marines at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, announces the release of his third book. Mr. DeWitt is also the author of Former Marine’s Unbroken Spirit, and of, Traditional Shotokan Karate-Do: Brief History, Katas and Masters in Shotokan’s Development.
Mr. DeWitt will be holding a book signing from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 30th, 2011, at Starbucks Coffee located at 1926 Niles-Cortland Road S.E. (S.R. 46), Warren, Ohio, in Howland Township, (330-544-7127). Starbucks Coffee is located near the Eastwood Mall, and directly in front of Home Depot, just look for the large sign which says, “North Commons.” Books will be available for purchase, including the author’s two previous books.
The author’s newest book is about when the United States Marines first landed at “Gitmo” Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in 1898, during the Spanish-American War. In 1903 “Gitmo” officially became a U.S. Naval Base, and later, in 1934, became a permanent naval installation. Over the next several decades, learn how several high profile incidents, along with the various detention camps that house the enemy combatants (al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters) had affected both the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Naval Base, and finally, the strategic importance of “Gitmo” to the U.S. Navy’s Atlantic Fleet and the U.S. Coast Guard.
Furthermore, find out what the U.S. Marines do 365 days a year to actually protect the U.S. Naval Base from potential military aggression/invasion from Communist Cuba.
