Mantua – Back in November of 2009, Jodie Fiala and Kim Sumwalt opened the doors of Jake’s Restaurant in Mantua, satisfying the community’s need for a family-friendly, hometown eatery. At Jake’s, they combined not only their passion for food, but also their names (Jodi and Kim’s Eats). As their restaurant continued to grow, they soon identified the need for year-round access to fresh and local food. In 2014, the pair sold Jake’s Restaurant, with plans to open a new local market to cater to this underserviced need in the community. Now, that dream becomes a reality as Jake’s Market gets set to open.

The new Market will be located at 10710 Main Street in Downtown Mantua, and will offer delivery within the Village. According to Jodi Fiala, the Market will sell local products, “but we’re still trying to define what local will mean for us — whether it means items from Ohio, or other nearby areas, as well. We will offer lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, celery, apples, potatoes, strawberries, blueberries, and peaches. And obviously we will have to supplement with off-season produce, and items like oranges, lemons, limes, and bananas.”

Jake’s Market will stock beans from Bent Tree Coffee in Kent.  Customers will be able to grab a fresh cup to go, purchase whole coffee beans to grind at home, or do so at the Market. Other items in Jake’s Market inventory will include staples like flour, sugar, butter, cheese, eggs, and milk. Specialty items include organic spices, organic frozen fruits and vegetables, Silk Almond Milk, Stoneyfield Yogurt, Sabra Hummus, and David’s Muffins. They also plan to offer fresh salads, deli sandwiches, baked goods, and ice cream.

They plan to open soon — as early as June 11, with a grand opening tentatively set for Sunday, June 14. For the latest information, check them out on Facebook, or give them a call at  (330) 274-0169.
